Accommodation and/or job wanted

Hi Chiswick!My 26 year old nephew, Angus Lyall is doing his OE, and is looking for short-medium term accommodation in London.He is in London now and looking for accommodation from October – flexible in a shared house, or board.  Possibly leading to longer term depending on where and when he finds a job.Angus is a graduate with 2 years' work experience in general labouring,  customer service and case management relating to carbon emissions, but is very open to all sorts of work.  He's interested in labouring if it leads to landscaping/garden maintenance.Angus is honest, personable, reliable and strong.  If anyone is able to offer him short or medium term accommodation, and/or some work, please email me at calvi.lyall@gmail.com.CheersCCF

Latest Conservative showing in the polls

I've seen predictions that if the latest ones showing Labour with a 33% plus lead was translated into a general election the number of Tory MPs would be measured in low double digits but does that take into account tactical voting? If not it might actually fall to zero.If I were Liz Truss I would be worried that Putin might launch a referendum asking if the UK wanted to join the Russian Federation - there seems to be a serious risk at the moment he might win without needing to fix the result.

Broken NHS

There was a time when this country said we had the best health service in the world. No more. Given the revelations of the last year or so relating to neglect and abuse of patients I think that this is no longer the case.And it's not just down to funding!

Energy support payment

Today we had notification of our first energy support credit on our utility bill. I feel slightly uncomfortable about receiving this. There are many for whomthis winter will be a real hardship.  I would like to have been given the choice about whether I wanted to accept the payment or perhaps be given the choice about where the money should go. NHS for example.

I am looking for planting advice for my garden.

I need advice on planting out southerly facing and northerly facing boarders in my garden.I am happy with the layout and hard landscaping but not so with the existing planting so I need someone to come along and tell me what to plant and where to achive a good showing all year round.This year some shrubs really struggled with the heat so with the prediction of more of the same to come in future years this is also a concern.As I have said I don't need a landscape gardener as such but someone who knows their plants.Any suggestions?

Cold water washing

Will it get your clothes clean? Always wash denim on their own in a cold wash (some rarely wash their jeans!). Works ok with specialist denim detergent. But sheets I like a 60 degree wash. Cycleway 9 Consultation - why the rush?

Well done to ChiswickW4.com for a good piece of investigative digging to give some clarity about what is actually going on with Cycleway 9.One question that wasn't answered was why TfL and Hounslow are so keen to kick on with the consultation. Would it not be perfectly legitimate for them to say there is no point in asking for people's views about the scheme this year because a) it isn't finished b) the A4 roadworks c) Christmas. From their point of view this would also give more  people time to become accustomed to its existence.It will be very hard to assess any comments from local people or organisations in the current situation.I'd be interested to hear if anyone has an insight into what they think is going on. It would be great if people could avoid rehashing the old arguments about the Cycleway itself (although I'm not holding my breath) as we already know what most of you think.

Is it over for Truss?  Is it over for the left wing of Labour too?

Is it over for Truss?  The betting is moving against her.https://www2.politicalbetting.com/index.php/archives/2022/09/28/its-a-41-betting-chance-that-truss-wont-survive-2023/And who will the Tories replace her with?   Will it make any difference now!  The party is over for this right wing cliche, that have failed the Tory party. Sadly we are all going to pay the price.For Labour nationally, this is once again demonstrating that a move to the centre ground, is the right one.  The mood from being in Liverpool recognises that.  Labour locally should have really won many more Ward seats in Chiswick back in May.  They didn't, and they didn't because of the left wing, momentum, extinction rebellion and cycling lobby dominated cliche, that sits within the labour group in Hounslow, who think they are superior to everyone else and so arrogant that they put up former lead for Transport, Hanif Khan, as a candidate.Just like the right wing cliche nationally in the Tory party they want to do to people what they want and act in their own narrow interest.  Ignoring the inequity that this creates.  This is the worst kind of politics and proven, once again, both nationally and locally to be a failure. The divisive cycleway that scars Chiswick, and LTNs in Grove Park, imposed against the will of the people is evidence of that. Time and again, a majority of Chiswick residents 80% to 20% have continually voted against all these schemes says it all.  Not only are the Council ignoring the will of the people, they are punitively taxing Chiswick residents for simply living there as disclosed the other week by SOGA that the Council are coining it, to the tune of £438,000 a week in fines on Staveley Rd, so far issuing £7.8m in fines.  That is immoral.  A failure. If Council leader, Shantanu Rajawat wants to be true to his word and start listening and working for all, he should follow the lead from the top of the Labour Party, stop the failures of the small interest group within his Cabinet, work with the people of Chiswick and not against them and implement schemes the majority want, the 80%, rather than the few, who have failed Chiswick and the Labour Party.

Anyone on the Avenue have a dodgy guy on camera or door

Ive just got in and reviewed a guy in his 60s,dressed like someone out of Pinky Blinders,black tache,grey short hair on chin,shaven at sides but has a patch of black hair half way up cheek and has half the back of his head shaven. And dark rimmed glasses. Seem to come to door to listen and then looked directly into the camera and left with a slight look of distisfaction This was at 1.39pm

Avian flu outbreak.

Listening to Farming Today on Radio 4 I was surprised to hear the UK is experiencing 150 separate outbreaks, very serious, probably the worst ever. Where it could effect us it could be in WILD BIRDS. They said NEVER TOUCH A DEAD OR INJURED BIRD.

Chaos at Heathrow this evening. A clipped tail causes it all.

My friend working at Heathrow reports that two aircraft were involved in a mini collision early this evening. One was taxying and the other not.  One was Korean  and the other Icelandic.100s and hundreds of passengers have been put into Hotels. Several other aircraft are marooned in midst of it all...and their passengers likewise delayed.I've  seen a photo of the damage my friend took. It looks like a tail fin has been cut nastilly.In addition..failures in the Heathrow Tunnel earlier caused more hindrance. Investigations taking place.. no-one injured. Just chaos.

A new Coffee Shop on Chiswick High Road along from Boots.I'm sitting at Table No.1 now.I liked the coffee and pastry but Michael Winner RIP would  have complained about my wobbly table!Pleasant,clean and airy.And a temping display of bread,pastries  and filled baguettes.Pop in. Card only. How am I going to get rid of all this cash in my pocket? :)

Brompton leaving West London

The Ealing site is reporting that Brompton is making plans to move its main manufacturing base to Kent with the factory in Greenford being wound down over the next few years.I've never owned one but have ridden them and they are a great bit of kit and it should be remembered that this rare British manufacturing success story was once more or less based in Chiswick. It'll be sad to see it go.

Seeking a House to Rent while renovation ongoing

Hi all,This is a long shot but we are a family of 4 in Chiswick. We are renovating our house and need to move out for a few months while they finish the work.We were advised by an agent that there have been occasions over autumn and winter that some home owners leave the country and are happy to rent out there house for the short term.If that is the case please do respond to this as I would welcome a chat.many thanksCharlie
