Truss should resign,  This might salvage her friendship with Kwateng - she won't have any others, and save her party the angst of trying convoluted ways of getting rid of her.  She must realise she couldn't possibly win an election for the Tories, so the sooner she would go the better for them - not that I favour a Tory win!

I can understand Americans wanting to listen to Boris because he is a comedy act. I could never understand why people were paying to hear William Haigh though. I understand he was making  well over a million a year. Also Mrs May has done very well financially. But......Truss..really?  Who the hell would ever pay to hear her. She is totally out of her depth as an orator. Embarrassingly so. The most irritating speaker.

If everyone would leave them alone instead of trying to cause all thismess they will do o.k, neither Liz or Rishi would have been my choiceand think they had the right idea but rushed in when any changes shouldbe made gradually or at slower pace.  She's a little too secretive or onguard but who can blame her really.

Richard you can't get away with '13 wasted years of a Labour Government'1) School buildings were repaired2) Sure Start was an enormous success3) Long waits in the NHS almost disappeared.4) Crime rates fell.5) Gordon Brown's initiatives stopped the meltdown of the financial system worldwide.  He had to part nationalise HBOS and Lloyds. Not a whimper from the bond markets when he did that.

Janice,The Covid epidemic hit the UK in early 2020. The Ukraine war started in early 2022.  The Tories were elected in mid 2010.  During the campaign to become PM Truss quite rightly pointed out that living standards had stagnated and growth was feeble between 2010 and 2020.Let's agree that we had at least ten wasted years under a Tory Government. I didn't agree with everything the last Labour Government did, but they had a decent record compared to this shower.

David,From 2010 to 2015 the government was a coalition between the Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats; the influence of the latter on the government's policies should not be underestimated. The Blair/Brown Labour government had left the UK's relationship with the EU in a form of limbo, not least due to their breaking their manifesto promise to hold a referendum before signing up to the Treaty of Lisbon. This failure led directly to the 2016 referendum, since when the Conservatives have tried to follow the instruction of the electorate to withdraw from the EU, despite Labour's attempts to sabotage the process. If you really think that Labour is the answer, then you are asking the wrong question.
