Amazon scam

Just got a call from someone (the usual Asian gentleman) alleging he was from Amazon. He was asking me to confirm that I wanted to sign up for Amazon Prime. Presumably the idea is to get my bank details etc. or, maybe just transfer £79 to him. When I have accidentally (or, even intentionally) signed up for Amazon Prime in the past it's easy to knock it on the head via my account. Afaik, Amazon won't call you like this but try and "slide" an Amazon Prime offer into whatever you happen to purchase from them. At the moment you appear to be able to get a "free" trial for a month. I am in no way recommending you do this.

High streets will die if green roads revolutions bans cars warns retail expert

Excellent article in the Sunday Telegraph today by Steve Bird. Retail property investor Marcus Langlands Pearse, whose property portfolio includes the Maltings in Salisbury which was badly affected by the 2018 Novichok attack, cites research showing the high street is facing a perfect storm caused by online shopping and people shunning local shops because of fewer parking spaces, fear of being fined for driving on newly closed roads and traffic jams.“If you do not act immediately, you will find the result will be irreversible. I know this will be an extremely difficult internal decision but for the sake of these boroughs, for the sake of the residents and more importantly for the sake of the beleaguered retailers, someone has to raise a hand and show strength by reversing this decision." 'Ere we go again.

Look like tin hat and Anderson shelter again for a while.I have often wondered how those toiling on a minimum wage have coped earning 80% or less of salary and then having to fill in the labyrinthine Universal Credit form to try to get somewhere near the fortune(!) they were on before. Why not pay ALL workers the first £9ph without reduction, and then start the reduction calculation from there, maybe paying 60% instead of 66% perhaps?

XTRA PC LEAVES ITS COMPETITION IN THE DUST

A diversion from all the doom and gloom - does this actually truly work?  this came up on my screen when I was looking for something unrelated to computers - it was corduroy trousers actually!  Back to this wonder gadget:- The first tester was absolutely thrilled with the invention and immediately connected it to the laptop in the room:“Simply plug the USB stick into the laptop, I tested it without a stick and it took forever for the computer to start up. It took a few hours from when the browser opened before I was able to surf on Facebook, but seriously, 10 seconds after I plugged in the USB stick, I could already surf the internet as if I suddenly had a brand new laptop in front of me, which is unbelievable. That’s why I think the invention of Xtra PC is groundbreaking and is the best product we are testing.”All the other testers were also impressed by how easy and effective Xtra-PC is - that’s what makes a great product. It even made brand-new name-brand computers work faster - that is why it is disrupting the computer industry!Surprisingly, Xtra-PC even works on computers without a hard disk. That’s right! Broken, damaged, or missing - Xtra PC lets your computer run like new even without a hard drive! The first tester was absolutely thrilled with the invention and immediately connected it to the laptop in the room:“Simply plug the USB stick into the laptop, I tested it without a stick and it took forever for the computer to start up. Anti virus recommendations please

I can't find any more recent than 2015 in the search engine and would appreciate some up-to-date suggestions.I've been with TotalAV for two years but both times it came up for renewal, they tried to DOUBLE the price. Not only that, but it resulted in my bank flagging the transaction as fraudulent and my wasting ages on the phone with them. So they're FIRED.Desktop PC running Windows.

Covid infection rates in west London: Council Boss Blames Government and Residents for High Covid Ra

I'm sorry, but some people plainly do not "get it". I saw a group of three elderly men looking at the blue English Heritage plaque on a house in Hammersmith last Sunday. They leaned in together and craned their necks over the railing to read. There was an obvious risk of infection if one of them coughed.I asked the group: "Are you in the same household?"  Cue embarrassed silence, and they slowly pulled away from each other.I continued: "I'm asking you for your own safety and good health. You should all of you be keeping at least 2 metres from each other at all times. It is simple". They accepted the ticking-off in good humour.  I hope that they remember.....

Congestion charge will not be extended.

Very good news for a change! Below is an article from Property News today."Agents working in London will be relieved to learn that the congestion charge will not be expanded, as previously feared. It was proposed by the government that the £15 congestion charge zone would be expanded to north and south circular in October next year to cover approximately four million more Londoners, as part of deal to provide emergency funding to Transport for London (TfL).However, it has now been confirmed that TfL will receive up to £1.8bn from the government in further emergency funding for the next six months without having to introduce an 18-fold increase in the size of the congestion charge zone.TfL will also not be required to scrap its free travel concessions for young people and the over-60s as a condition of receiving the funds, London mayor Sadiq Khan has announced. An expansion of London’s congestion charge zone, which currently operates in central London, covering the same area as the capital’s ultra-low-emission zone (ULEZ), would have had a devastating impact on businesses across the capital, including estate agency, as the added cost of driving would have proved an expense that many people can ill afford. Halloween treats

Before the COVID rules were tightened up, we bought a large tub of wrapped sweets for Halloween. We usually see lots of trick or treaters, but not surprisingly, we only had a few last night, so we are left with loads of children’s sweets and no idea what to do with them! They are not what you might call healthy treats, so I can’t think a school would want them! Any ideas?

can cyclists use zebra crossings?

I thought not.  A cyclist got very irate with a driver who failed to stop.  The cyclists was riding very fast on the pavement coming from Richmond towards the Manor Road roundabout, she swung round the corner and at the last minute and still at speed attemped to cross the zebra crossing without giving the driver any time to react.  As a pedestrian approaches a crossing  good drivers will have time to anticipate they might want to cross and therefore stop.  However, a cyclist that comes out of nowhere at full speed riding on a pavement and makes no attempt to slow or check the traffic makes it almost impossible for a driver.  I dont think the driver was in the wrong at all they were in front of me.  The cyclist hurled abuse.  I thought highway code stipulated cyclists should dismount at zebra crossings.

Shielding

When the government says that it is not asking the extremely vulnerable to shield this time, should we assume that's because they don't want to organise/pay for food parcels this time round, or is that too cynical?

Turnham Green Reopens!

Some sense at last. I was curious to read about an “ infrastructure Team” . What is it andand what is it costing- a lot I suggest. To mess everyone’s lives up and put a few bits of Lego down . I came back from a business meet on Wednesday . On M4 turning off at Porche Garage. I had forgotten about Acton Lane being closed so to get to Ramillies Road  I had to sit in CHR for over 20 minutes watching the Lego andsilly poles. One cyclist passed. Just one. Then down to Goldhawk up back and down SBR Bath Rd and finally South Parade. Whole thing took 30 m. Totally stupid with me unnecessarily polluting . Totally bonkers. I have been shopping in Askew as it’s a straight run and less traffic warden Herbert types. Not sure I shall return to TGT all that quickly, but weLl done Thames Water for foiling the nutty Hounslow’s ingtatructure Team!

Fat Cat salaries for Bankrupt TfL staff

"The number of Transport for London staff earning more than £100,000 a year has increased by nearly 100 to 557 since the Labour mayor took office four years ago. The bill for the six-figure salaries has risen by 15.8 percent or £10million to £73million over the period, said Shaun Bailey, the Conservative candidate in next year’s mayoral election."If this is fact, it's outrageous.
