Amazon scam

Just got a call from someone (the usual Asian gentleman) alleging he was from Amazon. He was asking me to confirm that I wanted to sign up for Amazon Prime. Presumably the idea is to get my bank details etc. or, maybe just transfer £79 to him.When I have accidentally (or, even intentionally) signed up for Amazon Prime in the past it's easy to knock it on the head via my account. Afaik, Amazon won't call you like this but try and "slide" an Amazon Prime offer into whatever you happen to purchase from them. At the moment you appear to be able to get a "free" trial for a month. I am in no way recommending you do this.

Maybe the question should be why one gets these calls. Do you get them all the time and who is your landline service providor I dont get any whatsoever. I have said in the past why and how you can attract calls and what not to do but i cant be bothered to search or post again the reasons. Some quick ones Dont answer the phone is one solution,let it go to answerphone if that is an option. Some log numbers as real person,answered and what time of day you answered. And some share phone numbers for other scams. You sound or come accross as vunerable and they will be onto you. Playing  fun and games is neither a good idea,it just gets you more calls for the simple fact you answered. At the end of the day most calls start as random numbers called in batches,you answer and they reply instead of no person on the other end and that is the start of your scam calls. But no person seems to take any notice as to why

it was a landline. Normally I don't bother answering but I was expecting an important call so answered without thinking. However I agree with what you say.fwiw, the number was 07055270954 which should have been a "giveaway" though there was nothing on whocalledme

Beware of Julian Pavey when he gives sensible advice.The man's far too sensible.He's also far too young to understand oldies are naturally trusting sorts and need regular scam practice.  At least once a week to keep us on our toes.  And lots of reminders...Otherwise we're inclined to be far too nice - which is when and how we get caught...
