Penalty Charge Notice

What a disgusting trick the council just played on my 17 year daughter, learning to drive,by putting 2 Penalty Charge Notices in the same envelope, both looking the very similar, unless you look very carefully,she was thinking just got a duplicate. Paid £65 for one straight away and yesterday received a fine for the other one doubled £195 please someone explain 2x £65 adds up to that.for non payment.Would understsnd £20 and take it for not reading the sign £65 to £195, the council staff and MP should hold the head in shame for ripping people off, I now what Robin Hood felt like.Max

I found a phone.If you've lost your phone, just give it a call (but not after 10pm please).And then I saw a little owl on hartington road. By my standards, quite an eventful day.

Toy donations and carers invited for new Stay & Play at Dukes Meadows Centre

Local mums, dads and carers are settng up a new stay & play session at the Dukes Meadows Community Centre. First one is Wednesday 21st June 10am to 11.30. For 0 to 3's. £1 per family towards teas and coffeeesToy donations welcome. There wil be a stall at the Food Market this Sunday for donations or enquiries.

Don’t get caught out at Sainsburys

A sixth sense made me check at the till that I’d received £5 off a Nectar item: I hadn’t! I had to specially ask for it which seems pretty unfair to me. And not a word of apology or any indication that had I not spoken up I would have lost a hefty discount: I had to go to Customer Services to ask for that. Don’t assume that when they offer you a Nectar discount that you automatically get it: always check.

Our son found a credit card in the name of James Harris yesterday on Chiswick High Road, near Waft.  If anyone knows him, please p/m me.  The card can be identified by the bank and James Harris's middle initial.

Trooping the Colour Flypast

Most, if not all, of the aircraft due to take part in the much-curtailed Coronation flypast should be in the display today - over Buckingham Palace from 13.00hrs.  We may get to see some of them here in Chiswick with the Red Arrows bringing up the rear at c13.07hrs (on their way to Heathrow/Windsor)

Night clubs in or around London?

My brother in law managed Angelic's in the Kings Road back in the day  and he is coming to visit later in the year from his home in Tuscany.I would like to remind him of the 'Good old days' but am way out of touch with the cool places.My era was Skindles Maidnhead, Cafe de Artist's Earls Court, Pantiles Bagshot etc all of which I guess are long gone.Where to go that you can let your hair down these days? Suggestions please.

These middle class people are totally deluded. Their actions just hurt innocent people and have ZERO effect on reducing emissions. In fact they make it worse. The egos of these people are ludicrous. It makes them feel so important but as so many have pointed out, their protests are utterly ineffective. Doing nothing would actually be more helpful

The Coronation - Good Use of Public Money?

From today's Open Democracy newsletter:-Ealing Council said it plans to spend £182,268, of which it has already put down £160,000. Following a live screening of the coronation, the council has programmed several musical performances and a fireworks display.In December, the Labour-led council said it was facing a deficit of £5m and would have to make at least £2m of savings from its budget for public health, adult social care, and leisure centres.The council is currently fighting a legal challenge over its plans to turn Ealing Town Hall – described as the borough’s “crown jewels” – into a 140-bed, boutique hotel. Signing off the plans in 2016, councillors said the move was necessary because the Grade II-listed building is “very expensive to maintain and repair and is in considerable need of refurbishment”.

LBH Weed Removal

This is a cautionary tale for anyone due to have weeding carried out on their sreet by LBH and/or thinking of usinfg FixMyStreet to report problems.Our street (Oxford Road South) was due to be cleaned on Monday (12 June) - signs went up and most neighbours moved their cars. On the day there was some limited mechanical sweeping but no weed removal and the signs were taken down the following day. I reported it using FMS but also emailed our local councillors. The explanation I have been given is that the cleaning crew ran out of time on Monday after they had finished cleaning St Mary's Grove and Park Road (both of which are immaculate as is Stile Hall Gardens cleaned on the previous Friday). But so far there is no indication that the work will be rescheduled or when that might be (if at all). And yesterday (to my intense annoyance) my report on FMS was marked by Hounslow Highways as "Closed". I'm hoping this will be sorted out through councillors (and I'm grateful to Peter Thompson and Guy Lambert) but I wanted to pass this on particularly in case anyone is relying on FMS.

So off 5th jab

I don't know whether anyone else has had problems after taking the 5th jab for covid.  I went and had this new type of jab. Sonofi -  the next day - first of all I could hardly move my arm and on the same side my hip was really painful and I found walking really difficult to walk or sleep - the hip is slightly getting better 4 weeks later.  I have heard other people have had similar problems ... Just wonder what they are putting in us.. I doubt I'll ever have another one.
