While 16 is the normal age of consent, it could be that nothing illegal took place - "just misguided", as Philip Schofield put it. However, to exchange revealing photographs, I gather the parties have to be over 18. While many politicians are piling into the BBC to ‘come clean’ and name the person, their HR responsibilities as an employer don’t allow that, so they’re left to be accused of being evasive and ‘in chaos’. It’s the Sun and the mother who started this and who should be pressed to name the person, but it’s in their interests not to, to keep the story bubbling along or for fear of the legal consequences. It's much more fun to let the name emerge by publicly eliminating every other BBC presenter one by one, as each denial makes another story.
