M & S back door entrance/exit

My husband has just found that this door is now permanently closed.  Apparently the high level of shoplifting has forced them to make this decision.  Most inconvenient but that’s the way things are these days.

The inimitable Jean-Michel in Waitrose also told me how shoplifting had become a major problem for them. Sign of the times - poverty, desperation.

Maybe they should put a till there ?. There is a disabled parking bay near the back door, without that I will have to use Sainsbury’s instead.

Maybe they should employ a small team of uniformed security officers so that one is always on site providing adequate deterrence to the thieving magpies.I have spoken to a number of local residents very upset at the closure of the back door.

I have observed shoplifting at Chiswick's M&S whilst staff, who will have seen what I saw, stand aside and do not challenge the scallywags.I've  notified them and the Manager on dutyand company policy is not to challenge the thief for fear of injury ... which might be extra costly

I visit the Tolworth M&S fairly regularly as well.They have a shoplifting headache too.Alcohol, Meat steaks and baby food being the main losses.Much expense has introduced newpilfer proof counters, cameras and very large tv displays.It's a problem getting worse.

A few months ago while waiting to collect a package I spotted a chap grab some alcohol and placed it under his jacket I told a member of staff and they approached him with the security person and removed it. Apparently he was well known to them. Such a shame that people behave in such a manner clearly this chap had mental health issues as well as alcohol problems. We don’t seem to have any system in place to help these people.

That is such a shame. It was very handy to be able to pop in quickly through this entrance to pick up a couple of grocery items. I can understand why they have taken this decision though.
