Covid tests

A cautionary tale. My son has a nasty cough, as he works in the care sector - he decided to get a test, he doesn't drive and sent for one - apparently coming in the post. Hounslow's website says there are walk-in tests tomorrow in Bell Road - and we also have Twickenham nearby but you have to go in a car. My husband said he would be willing to take him keeping all the car windows down and both of them wearing masks. Problem - now he has a postal test booked he cannot cancel this to re-arrange a walk-in for tomorrow. The 119 no. is pretty useless, no - cannot do they said, quite why someone can't press a button, cancel and tell him to go on the site again and re-book a walk-in, who knows? He enquired as to why the NHS site doesn't have a link to nearby walk-in sites so that people would automatically see what's available, good point they responded! In this instance Hounslow's information site has proved to be a far better bet. My son would like to get back to work if he hasn't got Covid - but with the post having a backlog - doesn't look like that'll happen anytime soon. Joined up thinking? What happened?

Friday Opening of New Cycleway

Is anybody giving odds that this will actually happen on Friday? I walked along the High Road yesterday and no work seemed to be taking place. The arrangements at junctions are all that need to be put in place but it doesn't look to me like it is simply a matter of turning on the new traffic lights.

The Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine has been approved for use in the UK, with the first doses due to be given on Monday amid rising coronavirus cases.The UK has ordered 100 million doses - enough to vaccinate 50 million people.This will cover the entire population, when combined with the full order of the Pfizer-BioNTech jab, Health Secretary Matt Hancock said.Wonderful news!!!

Police Stationed around Essex Place

Hi all - does anyone know what was going on last night on Essex Place? Lot's of police hiding around for what seemed like a good hour. At least 2 police cars and one van with police themselves on guard near the fencing of the development. It was around 6pm.CheersLiam

Hi,Having recently moved back to Chiswick, we have found that we are short of space. In  short, we’ll have quite a pile of books to dispose of - from economics and business texts to children’s books.We really don’t want to just dump them so does anyone know of anyone that would collect them and put them to good use?

Black bag refuse collections

I am mis-understanding the revised dates for refuse collections.  The way I read the revised dates was that over the Christmas/NY period BOTH recycling AND Black bag/dustbin/ refuse collections would be made on the same revised collection days.   Now what is happening this week?   Normal collection day is Wed so will be Thursday but will they be collecting the REFUSE BLACK BAG in addition to the recycling and will that also apply after NY's eve?  Usually the Refuse is collected every other week but where I live I think most people, (they missed some) had BOTH recycling AND REFUSE collected a day early on Tues instead of Wed,  before Christmas - hence my confusion.

Thames Road access REVISED

Sorry I missed the first part of Hounslow's reply in my previous posting.Again, can someone please explain it to me. "In response to the question you raised regarding the time limit for Thames road, At the current time the Council does not hold the information requested regarding the time limit. However, should at any time the Council hold such information then it is likely that we would treat that information as exempt under Section 31 (2) (c) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 as the timing element is in place to facilitate and enable the enforcement of a restriction. Further, releasing the pre-determined timings relating to the linked-cameras for this scheme is likely to start to dilute the effectiveness of the measure over time as there is a chance this information would become general knowledge. This in turn would likely undermine the purpose of the scheme which is to prevent through traffic.Details can be found in the FOI guidance here: https://ico.org.uk/media/for-organisations/documents/1207/law-enforcement-foi-section-31.pdf . There is no intention to issue penalty charge notices for legitimate access journeys. The penalty in question is not the time limit, but the purpose of the journey i.e. is it for access (permitted) or non-access (not permitted) purposes.  These type of access-only schemes are being trialled as part of Streetspace and we will be reviewing ways in which they can be made clearer and more effective. Residents feedback on this will be very important."

Amazon packaging danger to cats!!!

There have been reports that cats who have chewed or even played with Amazon packaging are suffering from severely ulcerated mouthes. Apparently Amazon have  been spraying insecticide on the cardboard to protect us from Covid-19. If you have cats then please discard/recycle the packaging immediately.

Lost purse, burgundy leather - near M&S Christmas Eve

On Christmas Eve I lost my purse in the vicinity of M&S or the public car park at the back.  I’d hoped I’d left it on the counter when I’d paid, but apparently not.  It’s of sentimental value so if anyone comes across it, please let me know. Thanks.
