Books

Hi,Having recently moved back to Chiswick, we have found that we are short of space. In  short, we’ll have quite a pile of books to dispose of - from economics and business texts to children’s books. We really don’t want to just dump them so does anyone know of anyone that would collect them and put them to good use?

You can try the British Heart Foundation who collected lots of stuff from us when we moved a couple of years ago - including hundreds of books. However I don't know how their normal operations have been affected by the pandemic - sadly I would guess, quite a lot.

Try Charities for Children's books sure there are many who would like them.

You could donate them to Oxfam Books in TGT.  Because of having to quarantine donations we do currently have rules: you can donate 2 large (eg bags for life) bags per person at a time on Fridays and Saturdays from 11 - 12.  We take books, DVDs, vinyl, CDs,  sheet music and actually are currently quite short of good quality children’s books. Thanks in advance.

[Oxfam Books, TGT] "you can donate 2 large (eg bags for life) bags per person at a time on Fridays and Saturdays from 11 - 12."And you can legally stop on the double yellow line outside Oxfam in order to unload your books donation.

I checked the British Heart Foundation web site and it said they would collect books, so I filled up all the bags I could find and used the online form to request a collection. They just called me to say they don't collect books, only furniture. So now I have 20 bags of books sitting around. Are there any other organisations who really do collect?

Try Ziffit app. You scan the barcode and they give a price for the book, then you pack up the books you are selling and drop them off (they pay postage) at collect plus or similar or they collect from you (I can't remember which now). There are other similar apps - webuybooks and music magpie. I thought ziffit was best, but got very different prices on the different apps. You can also sell DVDs, CDs, games. Great for decluttering. I discovered the app after I saw someone scanning barcodes in Oxfam.

The second-hand book stall at the Green Days fair (part of the Bedford Pk festival) are usually very grateful for donations and have collected from me in the past. I can dig out a contact if you still have your books.
