This is Going to Hurt
Loving this on the BBC. Ben Whishaw is excellent as Adam, the over-worked, desperately stressed junior doctor obstetrician. This drama works on many levels. Although some of the surgery close-ups are a hard watch there is also humour and interesting relationships and conflicts. I particularly like the fact that Adam is clearly flawed, not very nice really, and yet understandable given the pressures under which is is forced to work. And how he deals - or struggles to deal - with a disastrous mistake is gripping. And - there’s no avoiding this - it shows an NHS that is overwhelmed, under-staffed, and, in many cases, underpaid. And that’s before Covid. I haven’t read the memoir on which the series is based but I have no hesitation in recommending this adaptation.
