Travesty on staveley road

I have watched days and days of unnecessary works being carried out on Staveley Road which will continue in April.  The hundreds and thousands of pounds being spent on a now already defunct road and businesses on Burlington road are really struggling- We have had no say and the council have not taken any notice- Do not they think the monies could have been better spent ?

I've heard this figure of hundreds of thousands of pounds bandied around for the cost of the new Staveley Road barrier but it can't possibly be this high. It would be helpful if the council or the supporter of this scheme confirmed the actual number.

I have no idea  about Staveley, but a FOI request discovered a short stretch of the cycle lane was tweaked” at a cost of £3.3 million. Who would have believed  that figure if it was bandied about. Staveley Road specifically seems deemed unnecessary in light of the surrounding road changes.

These 'works' started on 28th February- still going on daily with an enormous amount  equipment being used daily.  I feel so sorry for the many houses experiencing horrendous noise - a notice tells us that these 'works' will take a month- interesting to see when it finishes.

Looks like its coming along nicely to me,  hopefully be attractive like the one in Riverview Grove.

Yes Mattew- but at huge huge cost which we will be paying for - to an already empty road! I could think of many many things this money could go towards .

It would have been better to remove the temporary barrier, leave the road open for a few weeks, undertake a traffic survey during this time to see whether the restriction is still needed, given all the other changes that have happened in the locale since the barriers were put into place.

Andrew is of course right. But when I ask Hounslow Council if they would consider such a temporary delay I was told me that the decision had already been made by the Hounslow Cabinet and that the time for experiments had ended. But of course it has not. The closure of Burlington Lane and the additional restrictions on Staveley Road (east) are simply 'trial measures' and could be removed in June.Yet another terminological inexactitude to add to the very long list of such blather from Hounslow Council.I wonder if those of us enjoying the seasonal cherry blossom on Staveley Road in a few weeks time will think that the barrier is anything other than an unnecessary and expensive eye-sore?  The cost is at least £100k. But don't worry the cost will soon be recouped from the the PCNs.

Matthew SwainThe Riverview Grove road closure was put there for a different reason.There were so many RTC's at those cross roads that one house had to rebuild their front wall so many times it was unbelievable.But it wasn't until a off duty policeman on his motor bike was involved in a RTC and was sadly killed, that the then Brentford and Chiswick Council sealed the road off.I used that road regularly in the early 1960's, and quiet honestly it was no quicker to use Riverside grove than carry on up Grove Park Terrace.In fact we use to have races, leaving the level crossing 5 scooters used RG and the other 5 used GPT, we use to meet up roughly at the same time in Thames Road, it was only quicker by seconds. But Cars in those days couldn't do it as quick as us, the majority were hardly built for speed.

Hey ho Sam - you are so right and Andrew also got it right - again I think this is a completely ridiculous situation- showing how this present council havnt taken any of our views on board . and are taking our monies with stupid fines to innocent people -  no thought about other far far more serious issues.  I never thought this would happen near to where I live. Shame on them .

Or can they just not take the money.  The eye watering sums that are being used on unnecessary or worse still , poorly thought out schemes, is possibly criminal,  in these current times of a pandemic and wars . Don’t you think ?

I think they should have spent the money planting more trees and plants. A living wall growing around Chiswick school maybe. Or on the buildings around Hogarth  roundabout now that they’ve diverted allThe traffic there !

Did they have the option?  It's all grab-a-grant usually for something specific or crowdfund.  Ealing had money restricted because they didn't play the whole of the Govt game.  Did you contribute to the crowdfunding for the other school green wall that Andrea Carnevali crowdfunded for?  I did.  There was a massive amount of energy and initiative put into that and the other interventions to improve the air quality there.  There are articles on this website.

More people = less space and the widening of the pavements seems to upset the motorists so often one per car in their huge tin boxes.  I have been nearly mown down by yummy mummies 'motoring' towards me three abreast pushing buggies nattering.  There is certainly a lack of tolerance.  Not to mention scooters and cyclists and worse when they are arrogant or when its unrestrained and untrained children speeding and looking backwards instead of forwards!
