Dear Anne, as an out and proud language pedant myself I do have some sympathy, but is this correction really appropriate? In the first place, Amanda is quite probably stressed, given the loss of her wallet, hence the ‘mistake’. Secondly, she seems to have a way with words (‘kernackered’) that is admirable. Thirdly, the c/s noun verb distinction is only present in British as opposed to American English and Amanda may be American. In any case this distinction is widely ignored by many educated Brits, and causes no confusion over meaning. Fourthly spelling evolves over time and this is probably one of those cases. Fifthly, there are far worse offences and offenders on this forum. And finally, it’s a beautiful spring morning - be happy!Amanda - I hope you get your wallet back.
