Tabard Theatre/Chiswick Playhouse
It’s very sad to see this closed and one can only hope it will find a new tenant. With a site like that, the theatre should be a huge success. It’s next to the Arts Ed, its an area full of theatregoers and has had some of investment recently. . And bang next to a zone 2 tube. One reason why it so difficult to make the place work, is the shortsighted approach of Greene King to refuse to allow the theatre to sell refreshments or have an imaginative deal to share enhanced takings. This cuts away at the viability. A thriving theatre would surely drive more punters to the pub. I was part of a group viewing with a view to taking the tenancy and the agent made a really poor job of “selling” it. There were several groups visiting but many may have been put off by the way the agent presented it. The theatre needs a really good theatre manager with great vision to reinvent the place after the difficult climate of the last few years. . But that just won’t happen if Greene King doesn’t create a package to tempt the right person in.
