Britain Has 100,000 Slaves

I would respect the BLM movement much more if they addressed this - ie what is happening here and now in sweat shops in Leicester and elsewhere.  Police apparently too frightened of being accused of racism to do anything. Not just BLM of course - everyone who cares about justice for people of any colour.   Would be much more effective focusing on real, specific issues of today that taking knees and toppling statues and silly meetings where people just mill around. Petitions to parliament, lobbying MPs, encouraging whistle blowing would all be good to get this stopped.

Devonshire Road

Badly thought out.  Confusing rules.  Ongoing gas work blocking other nearby roads (Brackley Road).   Negatively affecting local businesses.  If this is really about protecting people and social distancing, how about a pedestrian one way system, northbound on one side of Devonshire Road and southbound on the other?  It just looks like another ill thought out scheme by Hounslow council.  Honestly my two year old would have pulled together a better plan.

Pick for Britain

I visited a friend of mine yesterday and she is very worried by the recent development in Leicester and Herefordshire. She can’t believe the plane with the workers was allowed to land at the height of the pandemic and said she thought Boris sorted the demand for the farm workers with the Pick for Britain campaign. But admitted she doesn’t know anyone who’d taken a job at the farm recently. Nor do I. Does anyone here know anyone who picks for Britain this year?

Gunnersbury Park bowling green - the saga continues

Thanks for your offer of help, Jeanine - and everyone else who has also kindly asked what they can do. It's the CIC, the so-called 'Community' (!) Interest Company who runs the park. Unfortunately the community is not allowed any knowledge of what they're thinking or doing, there is no oversight, no transparency and they cannot be questioned or held to account. They are judge, jury and, in the case of the GP Bowls Club, executioner.The man in charge is David Bowler: bowler@visitgunnersburypark.org Perhaps you could write to him and ask why it's better for the bowling green to be empty than for bowlers to be allowed to have a few roll-ups for the remaining 2 months of the season. It would be interesting to see what lame excuse he could come up with to justify the unjustifiable. If you manage to get a reply, do let us all know, please.

Here we go again!

Some households in Isleworth have received letters from Hounslow regarding road closures to through traffic, and access only in some streets. Of course this will force even more traffic on to the already rammed Twickenham Rd. and have a far wider domino effect across the area right up to the borough border with Richmond at the A316. This is going to be 'enforced' with CCTV? Quite how that works who knows? Apparently this is all part of the government's response to the Covid pandemic. How Hounslow council imagine this will only affect a few streets is stupid in the extreme, and to only notify a relatively few people of this is disingenuous to say the least. It seems nothing has been learned from the disastrous Church St. debacle, we can only hope every Hounslow councillor will now ride a bike, or walk everywhere as a glowing example to us all. The one place I wouldn't try walking would be along Twickenham Rd. - not because of Covid but the carbon monoxide fumes will get you firstThe same government who cannot make its mind up about wearing masks in public places says this is 'statutory guidance' - go figure.

what about students loans Risky Sunak!!

with all these billions falling off the newly discovered money tree, surely, SURELY, students loans must be a major priority. For some who have forked out £9K plus for tuition last year with strikes and covid, did not get much for their money. Their housing costs which for most have been left empty since Feb and those graduating this year going into the new world of mass redundancies and companies cutting their graduate schemes while their interest rate on their loans grow at 6%. I worry about this generation with this debt around their neck.

wearing masks on public transport

Why are some people so reluctant to do so? We know masks don't provide complete protection, but they do provide some and surely any amount of protection is worth having? Countries where mask-wearing is widespread have lower rates of covid, whereas countries like America or Brazil, where wearing masks is thought to be some diabolical infringement on your liberty or to prove you're a cissy - well, we know the mess they're in. I see people (mostly the young, who believe themselves to be immortal, but not only them) getting on buses without masks and I wonder what it would cost/hurt/whatever them to wear a mask for everybody's sake?

If you check sister site HammersmithToday.com then you can clearly see on 8th May 2020 Michael Brown having his name dragged through the dirt on their forum page.Person responsible should be ashamed! How childish 😔 was under the impression we lived in a freedom of speech society, evidently dark forces at work hidden in their gloomy box room glued to a computer screen, very very sad state of affairs 😔 possible mental health issues???Hope one day (in a covid19 free future) forum users will have the decency to attend (anonymously) a social night down The Pilot, sure there will be plenty to discuss......or does that only happen behind screen savers?Could be quite fun!?!?
