Why is Johnson always behind the curve when it comes to introducing sensible precautions? On the other hand, why so reckless when it comes to opening up, and why are the signals coming from him always confused? I witnessed the result today at first hand. Social distancing outside the pubs on both sides of the river was barely observed at all. The worst example I saw was a party of about dozen girls on the grass near The Old Ship, hugging one another and drinking wine from bottles which they passed from person to person. When the emphasis of Johnson's utterances is always on restoring the "bustle" and celebrating coming out of "hibernation", it's small wonder that these young people behave so irresponsibly. And we can't discount the lack of trust engendered by the likes of Cummings and Johnson's father., both of whom Johnson refuses to criticise.
