Chiswick Calendar shows the full awfulness of the Staveley Road Barrier

Has anyone seen the Chiswick Calendar attempt to portray the wonderful blossom on Staveley Road, while seeking to conceal the awful red and white barrier that blights Staveley Road and Park Road and the whole of Grove Park.  Shame on Chiswick Calendar for supporting those who wanted to implement this awful scheme in the first place.  Good on Chiswick Calendar for providing the evidence that by trying to conceal its awfulness its shows that there are much better solutions and Staveley Rd should be returned to it's full length glory and fit for the Queen once again.

Scam

A man rang my doorbell today saying some tiles on my roof had slipped (already had a new roof in the summer!!) and if he could come in to the back garden he would show me and offer to repair it. His name was Jason, and when I told him he would be unable to see that part of the roof from the garden and refused him entry he left....scam ...beware!He drives a small white van

Ealing Council offices and 477-home scheme approved

Thought this might be of interest, Vistry Partnerships London Developments and Ealing Council have been granted planning permission from the local planning authority for a 477-home and council offices scheme on Uxbridge Road.

Sunday Flower Market

To spread the word to all those who love to garden and also those who like to fill their house with flowers.This Sunday  from 9.30am to 3pm.  there will be a flower market on the High Road in the area from Devonshire Road to the Police Station.  Experience from previous occasions indicates that the organisers and volunteers will do their utmost to ensure the safety of the visitors and be compliant with COVID-19 restrictions.The market on this Sunday will have loads of stalls - about 30 traders offering house plants, bedding and shrubs.  The traders I spoke to last time from Columbia Road said they would definitely be returning and I also know that Hardy’s Plants, gold medal  winners - I have seen them at Chelsea Flower Show amongst others will be there.The big bonus this time will be the cargo bikes to help you take home your many purchases - local only and unfortunately not to your home miles away.  Had that once when running a raffle stall on Acton Green and was asked to get the prize to Andover!!!!So mark the date to be there and pray for good weather

Hounslow - design codes

Hounslow Character and Design Study update: Character and Design Study Engagement Workshop 2: Design Codes I've received a lengthy email from LBH regarding this.   I must have signed up I suppose. "More information on the Character and Design Codes SPD can be found at our webpage:  https://www.hounslow.gov.uk/info/20034/planning_policy/2301/emerging_borough_character_and_design_study_spd .   That's not working but they lead you to another link.   A further part of the email says:- " join us at our stakeholder workshop on:  12th May 2021 from 6pm to 7:30pm.  The purpose of the workshop is for you to feedback on proposed area design codes and give your thoughts on any additional design codes that could be included in an SPD.We have put together an informative video to explain what design codes are, what they aim to do and how you can get involved. Link: https://vimeo.com/539853481 The format of the workshop will begin with a short presentation explaining what design codes are and their purpose. We will then break out and spend more time in area based discussion groups to look at the proposed design codes for each of the areas. There will then be an extended period of discussion time to give feedback on the proposed options, propose alternative codes and come up with new codes that shape the future of your neighbourhoods. The draft design code document will be issued in advance of the workshop."     Not quite sure who this intended to help - it must have cost a lot of money to prepare all this - but how useful is it???

Solid bumper to bumper traffic along the whole ofSouth Parade.

Sorry, I know people are probably fed up with seeing threads about traffic, cycle lanes, LTN's, etc. but this is our neighbourhood, and it is only right that we are all aware of these issues.Have just returned from walking the dog, and the whole of South Parade and into Acton Lane is completely bumper to bumper from the High Road back as far as the junction with The Avenue and Bath Road.Now, I am sure this is not just down to the closure of Fisher's Lane (although this will be a contributing factor) but will also be down to the extra congestion on the High Road, particularly coming into London from the M4, etc.Now people are returning to work, and schools are back after Easter, we are really beginning to see the full effects of these new measures. Low Traffic Neighbourhoods indeed - more like gridlocked neighbourhoods.

Justice at last!

So pleased that the sub-postmasters accused of fraud and theft which was entirely the fault of Post Office management's dodgy I.T. system, have been completely exonerated. Apologies from the head of the Post Office hardly cut it - there needs to be full accountability. Surely the people who knowingly contributed to this, and shredded documents and even tried to get the Judge to stand down from hearing the case, should be looking at least to charges of perverting the course of justice? Credit to good old 'Private Eye' who have been fighting this for years, the value of having a free press, who would not be quiet, and the innocent people who stuck it out for so many years.

Rena Salmon

I wonder if anyone recalls the case of Rena Salmon who shot her husband's pregnant lover dead at a beauty salon on Chiswick High Road in 2002? The man who defended her at the Old Bailey, Patrick Curran QC, died of cancer On March 16. Rena Salmon served 14 years and was released in 2016 suffering from cancer herself. She was still alive in 2017.

Apparently it's just been proven that it's actually bicycles, scooters and walking that cause climate change, and cars, contrary to what you might have heard, actually absorb Co2 from the atmosphere and the engine turns it into a harmless but pleasant fragrance.
