Tony Colman MP speaks to Putney

Health: I met last week with NHS representatives and I see that they have Queen Mary's Community Hospital contracts have now been signed off by Wandsworth PCT. Putney Hospital site has now been signed off to three Putney General Practices. The rest of the site is to be given over to key worker housing.

Transport: I also met with representatives from Crossrail and am pushing for a move on with Crossrail 2 which should really improve transport connections in our area.

I have also kept up my lobbying on improving bus connection through Putney, including to Hammersmith via the Wetland Centre.

Night Flights: Some of you are still suffering from night flight noise and I have been lobby the Department of Transport to ensure that night flight restrictions are not breached in the Heathrow area. We fought very hard for such restriction and none of us want to see them flouted, rather I am fighting for their strengthening.

Local Events: As always at this time of year Putney has provided a wealth of fundraising fetes and fairs. I attended the fete at Albermarle School and Putney Animal Hospital's Summer Fair. I am very pleased to have been voted President of the Roehampton garden Society which is one of those organisations that really emphasises traditional Putney values.

The Putney Arts theatre once again put on a wonderful event honouring the great contribution made by Maurice Copus, a portrait unveiling took place on Wednesday evening I would thoughoughly recommend the farce currently being performed at this excellent local theatre.

I also attended the Wimbledon Village show which demonstrated what wonderful events can be arranged by local conservators. Since Wandsworth Council have cut the Wandsworth Show I wonder if the Commons Conservators and Putney Society might like to consider resurrecting the show independently and show the Council what can be done.

Putney people seem to have been as enthusiastic about the new Harry Potter book as the rest of the country, I joined the queue at the Children's Treasury bookshop in Southfields with my young sons.

Internationally:
This week many MPs have been lobbied regarding trade justice. I consider this a particularly important issue and support the call for rich countries to remove trade barriers and heavy subsidisation of large scale farming - which makes the terms of trade for poorer countries unfair. I co-hosted an event with martin Linton, MP for Battersea, which was an extra surgery held at the House of Commons on the morning of Friday the 27th. Putney residents who were not able to make the lobby are welcome to contact me and I will add their concerns to those already communicated to Patricia Hewitt.

As chair of the UN All Party Group I was very happy to host Jean-Marie Guehenno, one of the UN's top experts on peacekeeping. I also took part in a discussion group about reform of the UN in the long term.
