Transport Issues

I have met recently with Metronet - the company that will be running the District Line - about which I have received many letters from Putney residents. If any one has any specific concerns that they would like to see addressed by the new managers, feel free to get in contact with me.

I continue to lobby against aircraft noise, still affecting many Putney residents. I recently joined forces with a cross party group of MPs to table a motion calling on the government to address all nuisance noise - from aircrafts to anti-social neighbours.

Earlier this week I was introduced to the new style black cab at the House of Commons. They offer full access for the disabled with a revolutionary new design providing a ramp for wheelchair users and swing-out seats to enable easier access.

I see from the SW15 forum that more people are complaining about the new Putney-Barnes bus service - I'll continue to lobby for this to be made a more comprehensive service. Any one with any particular points should let me know.

Education

I am continuing to lobby Ministers and the Council to ensure that Putney schools get the funding they deserve. Instead of this continuous sparring between local councils and the government I would like to see both work together to ensure that schools' increased outgoings, due largely to increased teachers' pay, are fully funded.

Putney in a Globalised World

The United Nations All Party Group met again this week, our main agenda being 'Globalisation, Work and Poverty', with the UK Director of the International Labour Office, Peter Brannen. I've also met with the Director of Fairtrade International, on improving trade relations between the developing world and Europe and raising awareness of Fairtrade products.

Putney's Oxfam branch has been given a facelift and I was honoured to attend its re-opening in mid-April. Fair Trade products are to be found throughout the store, I wish Putney's Oxfam well for future trading on the High Street and to continue to campaign for trade justice for the world.
