Sadiq Khan
He has just tweeted the following: "The extent to which people from Black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds are being disproportionately affected by the coronavirus outbreak is unacceptable. We need proper urgent scientific and medical analysis to see why. These latest statistics from the ONS expose the grim reality of the significant structural inequalities that have existed for generations. I’m urgently bringing together city & community leaders to discuss what can be done to protect Londoners at risk, but this cannot go on. Our country must not allow someone’s race, background or socioeconomic status to be the difference between life and death. The Government cannot simply ignore this and Ministers must bring about fundamental change that puts the wellbeing and welfare of everyone first."It is my understanding the ONS has already accounted for background and socioeconomic status. Why can't he (at least) consider that the difference in how the virus affects certain populations might be a genetic issue?!
