Law and our government

Please excuse the non-local post but this might just be one of the most critical moments in the UK's democratic history. Our government has, earlier this year, signed off an international act that they forced through parliament with a minimum scrutiny. They now say that this act is not suitable and has flaws (see previous sentence). So they are attempting to push through a new act that, in certain elements, breaks this previously agreed international agreement. That is, it acts against the law which this international agreement has set.I read a quote recently: "Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: there must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.” Previously I had thought that the conservative party was more than that definition. Now we have law breaking (in a specific and narrow way) being baked into legislature. And we had Mr Cummings happily keeping his job after not being bound by rules that others had to be bound by. So I am now beginning to doubt my skepticism over that quote. It now looks pretty spot on.Yes this is about Brexit. But it is more than that, it is about the UK's self-government and the UK's position in the world. Is this what the 2016 referendum was promising to deliver? Is this the UK we want for the future?

Wasps! Takeover of Stamford Brook Common.

Down on the common today - there were thousands, swarms, of wasps. The wasps are colonising the holes all over the common. The holes have been made by people with metal detectors at night, increasingly lately. But now each hole is full of wasps tunnelling. I suspect the weather/season is a factor but I have not seen such a wasp invasion in 20 years of using the park. I'd really like to stop the late night detectorists with their shovels anyway as the holes are a genuine broken bone hazard - but the wasp thing is quite odd.

Pay for BBC Staff

I may be not be popular with this  but  hearing how so many staff in the BBC are being paid megga megga sums - I cannot believe how they can do this.   whilst they are now taking away the free licences for the over 75's    I agree that some people can afford this but so many cannot.I used to work for the BBC and people did not in those days expect such enormous fees it has really become outrageous.. especiously in today's world.

I see that another traffic camera has been installed about 100 yds off of the Hogarth roundabout on the slip road from the Hogarth roundabout leading to Burlington Lane (Great Chertsey Road) pointing back to the roundabout.What's that all about?

Cancelling a booked slot at the Stirling Road recycling centre

Apologies if this has been discussed before here, and also if I am being stupid - which is very possible - but does anyone know how to cancel a pre-booked slot at the above recycling centre?I can't make my original slot, and have managed to rebook for a later date, but can't for the life of me see how I can cancel/delete the earlier date from my account!Surely it can't be hard?!

London Borough of Hounslow Document dated 12 June 2020 Chiswick Transport SchemesHounslow Street Space ProgrammeChiswick Area Transport SchemesDevonshire Road Trial Road ClosureThe Council are progressing a trail road closure of Devonshire Road, Between its junctions with Chiswick High Road and Glebe Street, with the intention of reducing traffic volumes by preventing through traffic.The closure will Still allow access to Prince of Wales Terrace for residents, businesses and associated visitors, whist some / unloading and blue badge parking facilities area being retained in Devonshire road to ensure those requiring these facilities are not adversely impacted.The Loading Bays in Devonshire Road will be for all vehicle users who are picking up or dropping off items at businesses and not just those traditionally classified as goods vehicles; Loading /unloading will be limited to a maximum stay of 20 minutes.The existing pay and display parking bays, where not being used for loading or blue badge parking purposes will be suspended thereby ‘widening’ the foot way and increasing the social distancing capabilities for pedestrians. Direct access from Chiswick High Road to Glebe Street through Devonshire Road will not be permitted as part of the trail road closure. The existing southbound one-way system in Devonshire Road, from Chiswick High Road to Ingress Street, will be retained as at present.The scheme will be enforced by CCTV rather than physical measures, therefore, ensuring the permitted exceptions identified overleaf are not prevented by the changes. Kew Retail Park Parking Fine

I went to Kew Retail Park on Friday afternoon and on leaving realised that I may have been about five, possibly ten, minutes over the four hour time limit which is referred to on the rather sparse number of parking notices dotted around the car park.  Has anyone done the same recently and were you sent a penalty charge notice in the post? How much over the four hour limit were you? How many days after the event was it that you received the postal fine? I'm just wondering how efficient their ANPR system is. Thanks in advance.

Covid 19 and flower market

I didn’t realise until reading the report on this site that the flower market is a monthly event. If the first one is anything to go by, this should be cancelled immediately. There was no social distancing - it reminded me of going into a soccer or rugby game with crowds milling around. What were the stewards doing?A real risk with regards to Covid.
