Parking for Builders in Chiswick

I am going to have some building work and I live in Residence Parking only area. I wonder if it is possible to get a parking permit for builders. I have looked at LBH website and can’t see any facility. I wondered how other residents have managed.

DVLA problems

I was wondering if has anyone else has had problems in their dealings with the DVLA. I recently spent the best part of an hour trying to pay my road tax online: pages constantly froze, I was offered irrelevant options to choose from, and I went back to the beginning and started again five or six times. In the end, I gave up, walked up to the Post Office and got it done in about two minutes.The other major problem I have is renewing my driver's licence. This has been going on since last November, when they first informed me that renewal was due in January, but I would first have to take an eye-test, arranged by the DVLA. I have no problem with this, but they have so far failed to make the appointment I need, so as a result of the their dilatoriness and lack of response to queries, I am still waiting. They have become the classic Orwellian bureaucracy - impossible to contact by phone and entirely unresponsive to polite written queries. Can this really all be the fault of Covid?

Flood alerts issued as Thames rises due to 'spring tides'

Fit to Fly Certificate for Green List Country

Can anyone recommend places in Chiswick that offer this service with a quick turnaround for a reasonable price. I looked at WestLondonPharmacy but at £165 per PCR test it seems a bit overpriced for a family of 4!Thanks

The trial on Devonshire Road in Chiswick, where access for motor vehicles has been restricted, will be significantly amended. Provision will be made for restaurants and cafes on Devonshire Road to retain the use of a limited number of parking spaces for outdoor dining, but general traffic access will be reintroduced during the daytime (8am to 5pm) before the end of July. As part of its listening approach, the Council commissioned independent reviews of the borough’s Streetspace trials last October to assess their impact on traffic and to analyse feedback from residents and businesses.Some 10,000 individuals took part in the consultation, both in writing and in a series of online engagement events organised by the Council, including events aimed specifically at businesses.Following the independent reviews, the Council announced a number of changes to Streetspace in May and promised further engagement with regard to the trials on Bath Road and Devonshire Road.Councillor Hanif Khan, Cabinet Member for Transport and One Hounslow, said: “I want to thank the thousands of people who took part in the consultation, as well as those who spoke to us when we were knocking on doors in and around Bath Road and Devonshire Road as part of a further engagement activity in the last few weeks.“I hope today’s decisions show that we are continuing to listen to what residents and our local business community are telling us about the Streetspace trials, with the aim of retaining the best of the schemes, but also being prepared to amend or remove trials where they are not working.“In July we will conduct our final review of the other Streetspace trials and we will subsequently announce which will be made permanent or whether any further changes need to be made.”

Book Disposal - Stirling Road Tip

Does anyone know how books are disposed of at the Stirling Road tip? What I mean is are they just thrown into general waste or is there a special area to deposit them where they will be reused?

Temporary Street Trading Application - Coffee van, Fisher's Lane by the playground

I saw a notice today on Fisher's Lane for a Temporary Street Trading Application for a Piaggio APE, serving "coffee, baked treats, artisan soups (when possible)".  Looking at the detailed application on Hounslow website's pending street trade applications, the APE's pitch will be on Fisher's Lane in a (ex-) parking bay just south of the dropped kerb, next to the Playground.  Proposed trading hours are 7am-4pm, Monday to Sunday.  There is no mention as to how long a temporary Street Trading Application runs for?Even though the plans show that an A-board will ask customers to queue on the road between the pavement and the APE, I think there are so many issues with that stretch of pavement: narrowness, camber, high pedestrian traffic without adding a coffee van into the mix. Grove Park/SOTG LTN access

Can someone please explain the wretched access confusion to Grove Park and SOTG with the current LTNs? Twice we have had an Uber driver refuse to come to our house because of the confusion about "access". LTNs as I understand are to stop "through" traffic from rat running, NOT to stop deliveries and taxi collections. If you don't come via Hartington Road then surely you can drive into Grove Park/Thames Road provided you don't exit via Kew Bridge? If you enter and depart the same way is that how it works? There is so much confusion about what "access" is defined as.

Dash Cam fitters

Drove into London yesterday to pick up a new office chair. Not a trip I’d do lightly. Was amazed by how many times cyclists skipped out of lanes, jumped in front of cars, went through red lights, slid past cars and vans on the inside at lights. I’ve regularly cycled some of the routes as as a commuter, and it was never as bad as this. Mayhem now and it was a Sunday.Told a pal about this experience and he said get a dash cam fitted in case a reckless cyclist causes an accident. I know Halfords fit them. Any others locally? I’m on average a low mileage driver, so don’t want to spend too much.

Dog owners alert

Below is , I hope, is a photo of a weed I call foxtail which is now growing fast all about.Later in the year the seed to the left of the photo will  turn brown and disperse.The top is needle sharp and will easily penetrate a dog's or cats foot. Being barbed it can work it's way up inside the leg and then go septic.The year before last this happened to my dog . The vet tried to flush it out but had to repeat the treatment twice. He said he had treated many dogs recently for this. Poor Bertie suffered as did my wallet.This is an early warning but we have already started to check feet after every walk.

Fencing recommendations?

Can anyone recommend a reliable local fencing firm that doesn't charge a fortune?  The fence in my back garden needs replacing, but the old one will have to be removed in bits through the house as there's no side/rear access.Thanks in advance for any feedback.
