Residents in Southfields will have the chance to quiz candidates in next month’s Wandsworth Council elections at an election hustings organised by the Southfields Grid Residents Association (SGRA).
It will take place on Monday 25 April at St Barnabas Church, Lavenham Road SW18 from 7.45pm until 9.30 pm. Four parties are contesting Southfields Ward for the two council seats. This has been reduced from three following the recent local government boundary review. Labour, the Liberal Democrats and Greens are lining up alongside the incumbent Conservative councillors. All 8 candidates have been invited to attend this meeting to outline their plans and answer questions.
The SGRA has put on these hustings for the past couple of elections. It chair Charles Runcie explains their importance to the democratic process. “Our local council services are more important and more scrutinised than ever. The SGRA aims to use these hustings to give Southfields residents the chance to meet the people who want to be our councillors, learn more about how our council tax Is likely to be spent, and the policies of each party”.
People can submit a question in advance by sending details of it to info@southfieldsgrid.org.uk by 11.59 pm on Sunday 24 April.
