Southfields Residents' Group Has Socks Appeal
Knitted socks wanted for residents of Wandsworth prison
New, used or knitted socks all very much appreciated
At the behest of the chaplain of HMP Wandsworth a local residents’ association is making a Christmas appeal for knitted socks.
Last year the Southfields Grid Residents’ Association (SGRA) helped collect hats for the prisoners. It received hundreds, and they all went to good use.
This Christmas the present from Chaplains to all prisoners will be SOCKS. If you can donate any pairs of men’s socks size 5-11 that would be highly appreciated.
They can be new, or unwanted and clean - the brighter the better. You can buy them or knit them yourself.
There are various collection points at houses around the Grid:

• 127 Heythorp Street
• 15 Elsenham Street
• 90 Elsenham Street
• 147 Brookwood Road
If you can’t get out, email info@southfieldsdgrid.org.uk and they can collect them.
SGRA chair Charles Runcie said, “After last year’s hugely successful hats appeal, plus a collection of over 1,000 books during the year, we’re once again reaching out to the generosity of ‘Gridder’ to give a little festive comfort to the inmates at Wandsworth prison. Who doesn’t have some unwanted could donate, but make sure they’re not smelly ones!”.
Prison chaplain Liz Bridge added, “People can deliver them to the prison direct. They can be left at the house to the left of the prison, which is the Visitors Centre, or posted to me at Wandsworth Prison, Heathfield Road, London SW18 3HU. If anyone is clearing out jigsaw puzzles I’d love them too!”
As far as donating any more hats, it’s not the priority this year but they’ll happily accept any if you are a happy knitter.
Donations must be received by Monday 13 December to enable them to be sorted and distributed before Christmas.
