Fresh food delivery from local businesses

Can anyone recommend a local business where I can order groceries/fresh bread/pastries/deli items online for delivery in Ealing? I'm aware of the headline post from a few days ago, but things are changing so quickly, it can be hard to find out current info on the smaller businesses. I would like to send something to my parents and would prefer to support a local business where possible. Thank you.

Sainsburys delivery

Hello allMy mother who's 74 and recovering from surgery can't get out of the house to get to Sainsburys. She's been relying on the delivery service. She's had a message from them saying after the 23rd they'd get in touch as she's classed as vulnerable. However the app is now closed and entering her details on the webpage it now says she doesn't seem to be in the vulnerable group and there's no slots available. She tried calling the 0800 number but gave up after an hour. I know this seems to be a problem but has anyone got any ideas?Very shoddy service

Ocado Zoom Deliveries

This is a brilliant delivery service. I placed an order at 9am yesterday and it arrived at 6.15 pm . I chose my delivery time , not many slots left. I’ve been using them for some time. A minimum of £15 is all you need. It’s Ocado and Waitrose. Admittedly some goods out of stock but I got bread, chicken, veg, fruit milk and eggs. I am not going to the shops at my tender years. Plenty help from friends. But I don’t want to add to their load.

Group spreading

This is on a similar topic to the one about joggers in Chiswick House Grounds. I've noticed recently that when some people go for a walk round the grounds in groups of two or three, they often spread out across the path. This leaves the required couple of metres between members of the group, but means that anyone coming the other way has to pass close to at least one of them. Could I suggest that if you are going to walk in this way, you might keep an eye open for people walking towards you so that one member of your group could drop back and leave a larger space for that person to pass? This is not a rant, and I'm perfectly happy to see groups of people walking round those beautiful grounds, but it would show consideration to other walkers in these strange and worrying times.

Acton Homeless Concern

AHC are now only able to serve takeaway food for their vulnerable clients which consists of a freshly cooked hot meal. The problem is they desperately need take away containers so if you have any you can spare can you please let them have these.  Alternatively I live in Chiswick and I will gladly accept them at my house and take them up to Acton. PM me direct thanks.

Is Parking Enforcement a necessary activity?

Hounslow Council have announced that they are going to continue enforcing parking restrictions. Given that the amount of traffic is down and there isn't much demand for parking spaces at the moment, what public benefit is being achieved by doing this? What it does to is create unwanted problems and expense for people who need to drive and park to support isolated elderly relatives.

Sainsbury's?

I haven't visited for ages, but need to venture out today to stock up on some basics. Is it still awful? I'm not taking the car so need to be in walking distance to stagger home. If Sains is still bad, I could go to Waitrose, but it's further than I'd like to walk with heavy bags. Thanks.

Hounslow Council Leader Blasts Chiswick Shoppers

Obvious question but was the Council leader's travel essential?  If not why was the esteemed leader not following the same Govt guidelines that he is criticising others for not following?Very noticeable that he criticises the people of the only Tory enclave in his Labour paradise. Does he regularly drive through Chiswick on a Sunday (he represents Syon ward so may do so) - if not how does he know what a regular Sunday morning looks like? From what I could see most people were food shopping and even the coffee shops were take away only.  Yes B&Q was open but they were apparently only letting one person in as another person left

Hounslow Council tax

Yesterday’s letter, announcing an increase in the council tax, good timing, a brief reference to Brexit, no mention of Coronavirus ! They also say they intend improving Hounslow, no mention of Chiswick

Chiswick shops - who is open for what?

There's now a list on the home page with information about who is open for what. There are already several to add, and one to remove, and we'll keep it up to date (thanks to the hard work, too, of the editor). Let me know of others - I've contacted all the independents I'm in touch with but they haven't all responded; this is a work in progress but the message is: CHISWICK IS OPEN!   Our local independents are working so hard to adapt to these extraordinary times. Please do support them - social distancing rules allowing, of course. http://www.chiswickw4.com/default.asp?section=info&page=coronachiswickshopping001.htmJo and theChiswick Shops Task Forcejoanna.biddolph@hounslow.gov.uk

Tube

Everyone is trying their best so can Sadiq Khan stop faffing about, the tube is undoubtedly quite literally a death trap.  So only NHS workers, food shop workers and carers should be allowed to travel on it.  Lift parking restrictions and give NHS workers and food shop workers the choice to drive to work.  Get the stations policed, we have a Transport police force, people must demonstrate that they are a key worker or they aren’t allowed into the station.Stop construction work, it is ridiculous that teams of builders are working in my street - none of them are 6’ away from each other and none of them are local so how did they get here. Less TV appearances and more decisive action Mr Khan.
