C9 & TfL
Last week I received an email from the 'Project Officer' for Hounslow 'Traffic & Transport' in which they state in writing that if 'it is clear that the local community is strongly against the cycleway, it will be removed', and that it was never intended to be permanent. This begs the question as to why, if that is the case, they are spending so much money and causing so much disruption when, surely, they should wait until the TfL survey is closed and they know the feelings of local residents. Or perhaps everything rests on the definition of 'strongly'? Personally, I have opposed the CHR cycleway from the start because the location is completely unsuitable; even if cyclists stopped at their red lights rather than sail through them or mount the pavement to bypass them, the cycleway would be dangerous: Using the pedestrian crossings now that the traffic islands have been removed, is scary and as a driver it's very difficult, given the increased congestion resulting from C9, to see people crossing.
