The two hander has been praised as 'touching, funny, beautifully acted'
March 25, 2026
The Tabard Theatre continues its strong run of new writing this spring with Masterclass, a sharply observed two-hander by Tim Connery, co-presented with Take Note Theatre and the originating producers at The Bridge House Theatre.
Running from 15 April to 2 May the play brings humour, pathos and a touch of theatrical chaos to a primary-school classroom after hours.
The story follows Roger Sutherland, an ageing Shakespearean actor whose career has dwindled to paid evening masterclasses in community halls after a dispute with the taxman. Into his world strides Gary Brock, a brash young Australian performer with a TV past and big ambitions. Their clashing egos, mismatched acting philosophies and mutual insecurities spark a battle of wits that is as funny as it is revealing.
Praised in earlier runs as “touching, funny, beautifully acted” and “a warmly compassionate comedy,” Masterclass has already earned Fringe Theatre and Standing Ovation award nominations. Directed by Luke Adamson and starring Kurt Lucas and Alex Dee, the production promises a lively, heartfelt exploration of art, ambition and the fine line between performance and reality.
With a brisk 75-minute running time and a blend of wit and emotional depth, Masterclass looks set to be one of the Tabard’s standout offerings this spring.
