The Tabard Theatre, Chiswick is showing Horatio Nelson: Fever and Fire, a captivating one-man show written and performed by Adam Preston, from 8th -11th April 2026.

Based on deep research, and featuring costume by 2025 Prime Time Emmy winner Dougie Hawkes, this production breathes fresh life into an epic story, exploring the psychological depths of Britain ’ s greatest naval hero.

With tickets selling fast this is  a story bursting with drama and modern relevance. Known chiefly for his series of victories, culminating in Trafalgar, and his scandalous affair with Emma Hamilton, Nelson ’ s story is also one of grief, heartbreak and repeated brushes with death. Uniquely, the show delves into Nelson ’ s early years, exploring how the loss of his mother at age nine and his overlooked status as a “ middle child” fuelled a relentless drive for remarkable achievements and a need to be seen.

This fresh psychological lens makes Horatio Nelson, Fever and Fire a very modern phenomenon - an exploration of how trauma and loss, family dynamics and one very important family member, leads to the formation of a man so dangerous, his country can’t survive without him.

Adam Preston has spent years researching Nelson, the Georgian Navy and the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars and was commissioned to write a mini series about Nelson for Working Title TV. He brings unmatched authority and stagecraft to this role. His credits include the podcast series Trafalgar Squared, and historical writing for heritage organisation The Trafalgar Way. A seasoned performer, Preston has starred in Chekhov ’ s The Proposal at Prague ’ s Na Pradle Theatre and has performed stand-up all over the U.K. His intimate, dynamic performance at The Tabard promises to transport audiences from the decks of Nelson’s many commands to the glittering salons of Naples. “ Nelson ’ s story is one of the greatest true dramas in history,” says Preston. “ I’ve taken a deep dive into his life and became fascinated by the powerful forces at play in his early life. There’s a deep wound there and it plays a crucial role in everything that unfolds.  In terms of storytelling this a ripe fruit waiting to drop.”

Featuring a unique soundscape by Amanda Priestly and lighting by Nat Green Horatio Nelson, Fever and Fire presents the story as narrated by the naval hero direct from Trafalgar Square. Nelson is feeling ignored on his perch 50 metres in the sky and decides to give his own account of his life…
