Lauren Roots Named Learner of The Year
Wandsworth Lifelong Learning Awards recognise highest achieving adult learners
Lauren Roots, a business administration apprentice in the Wandsworth Council’s planning department has been named Learner of the Year at the Wandsworth Lifelong Learning Awards.
At a ceremony in Wandsworth’s Civic Suite more than 150 local people were presented with certificates of achievement in subjects including business administration, health and social care, teaching, information technology, numeracy, literacy and English for speakers of other languages.

The awards recognise the borough's highest achieving adult learners – rewarding them for their commitment and success over the past 12 months.
Lauren’s tutors have praised her commitment and the progress she has made during her apprenticeship journey.

Jonathan Ajibade was highly commended. He was unable to find work in his chosen field after graduation and joined the Traineeship programme. Through the council’s Lifelong Learning team he has secured employment at Berkeley Homes in Battersea, with the aim of becoming a site manager in five year’s time.
Barry Thompson, a manager and tutor at Deaf First was acknowledged for his outstanding contribution to learning in the borough over ten years. DeafFirst is based at Oak Lodge School and specialises in working with learners who have communication needs.
Tutors of the Year were Kahina Reggane from Aspire and Samantha Rob-McKinley from Wandsworth Apprenticeships
iGospeluk, in partnership with the Battersea Chapel Choir, entertained the audience with two soulful numbers.
