Motor Vehicle Crime
Lately we have had an increase in motor vehicle crime. Please follow these tips to stop yourself being a victim.
- Satellite Navigation equipment is becoming more popular with thieves.
- Remove portable sat nav’s and their cradles when you leave the vehicle.
- Remember to wipe suction pad marks from the windscreen or dashboard,
as thieves will look out for these.
- Don’t leave equipment in the glove compartment. Thieves will usually
check this first.
- Make sure your vehicle is locked securely.
- Report any suspicious behaviour around vehicles to the police
immediately.
- Use car parks that are part of the Police approved Safer Parking scheme - those that display the official ‘Park Mark’ sign. For details visit www.saferparking.com.
We have increased our patrols around the area but please let us know if you have any information regarding this issue.
Burglary
Burglars don’t like 2 locks - Use your Yale and Mortice locks
Tips when you leave your home
Bogus Callers
Stop – are you expecting anyone? Put the door chain on before opening the door; and check – ask to see an identification card and phone the company they say they are from. If they really are who they claim, they won’t mind waiting while you check or coming back when you are not alone. If in doubt, keep them out.
East Putney Update:
On the 30th August 2008 the East Putney SNT held a successful Streetmeet on the Sutherland Grove Estate SW18. Many residents met with the team to voice their concerns and pass on positive comments on the improvements in the area as a result of our presence on the streets.
On the 18th September 2008 the East Putney SNT and the Neighbourhood Watch team met with residents of Rusholme Road, Holmbush Road, Lytton Grove, Chepstow Close and Arlesley Close in order to launch some Neighbourhood Watches for the area.
On the 9th November 2008 the East Putney SNT took part in what was the biggest Remembrance Day Parade in recent times. It was an honour for us to be part of such a moving day.
On the 14th November 2008 PS Snowden and PC Cook with Councillor McDonnell and managers from the council housing department conducted a walk around Strathan Close SW18 to identify potential physical changes to the estate that may assist in tackling ASB and other low level crime.
Metropolitan Police Launch New Contact Number
You now only need to know two numbers to contact the Metropolitan Police:
In an emergency always call 999. An emergency is when a crime is happening, someone suspected of a crime is nearby, someone is injured, being threatened or in danger.
For all non-emergency calls to the Police dial 0300 123 1212, such as when reporting a crime or an incident that does not meet the above criteria, to speak to local police or when seeking advice on police matters.
