Join the Yarn Bomb to raise funds for The Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability

The Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability on West Hill is challenging all local crochet and knitting enthusiasts to be part of its yarn bombing project.
If you can produce a piece that‘s full of “colour and vibrancy” there’s still time to get your yarns displayed on the hospital’s railings. Already hanging proudly are wool flowers, people, animals and colourful patterns.
The wool works of art will continue to be displayed until the end of September, and the hospital says it is very grateful for support, either by residents taking part in the knit, donating, or both.
The hospital is using the yarn bomb to raise vital funds for its Occupational Therapy Art Service, which provides a leisure activity for patients as well as an enjoyable way for them to meet their rehabilitation goals. Importantly, the art sessions have also been shown to improve patients’ physical and cognitive ability after suffering a life-changing brain injury or illness.
One patient said, “It’s given me a completely new outlook on life. I had never painted or done any art before. I started from scratch and learned how to paint using my mouth and I felt very proud. I never thought I could do anything like this.”
Late last year the hospital, which is a charity, ran a knit-for-a-bit winter challenge and was overwhelmed with the amount of support and hats it received, “We even had leftover hats which we were able to gift to our patients to keep them warm during the colder months.”
