Wandsworth PC shortlisted for award

for her role in tackling dangerous dogs and anti-social behaviour.

THE race is on for one of London’s Safer Neighbourhoods teams to secure a £10,000 prize as part of the capital’s first Safer London Problem Solving Awards.

PC Lesley DunnAmong the eight shortlisted finalists is: PC Lesley Dunn the Problem Solving advisor for Wandsworth Borough for her role in the multi-agency approach in tackling dangerous dogs and anti-social behaviour. PC Dunn joined forces with Wandsworth Borough Council and its partner agencies over the past year and a half on tackling anti-social behaviour on the Patmore and Carey Garden estates in Battersea.  An effective channel of communication between the council, police, RSPCA, youth workers and the public enabled the task force to deal with anti-social youths and dangerous dogs, along with the environment of concern their behaviour caused.

The ceremony, to take place next month during a national conference to celebrate the success of the Metropolitan Police Service’s Safer Neighbourhoods (SN) programme, will highlight the importance of community and multi-agency participation in dealing effectively with concerns and problems.

Judging has already taken place and entries from eight of London’s boroughs will find out if they have scooped the top prize at the Safer Neighbourhoods: the future of policing event, to be held in central London on February 8. The winner will also become one of the Met’s entries in the national problem solving Tilley awards, which will be held in September.

Ch Supt Steve Bloomfield, of the Met’s Safer Neighbourhoods Unit and one of the Problem Solving Awards judging panel, said:

“The £10,000 prize will be reinvested in the neighbourhood that has presented the strongest entry to the judging panel. The winning entry will promote the importance of partnership working, will tackle an issue that has been locally identified by the public as a concern and will share good practice and learning.”

The Met, Metropolitan Police Authority and Safer London Foundation have jointly sponsored this award.
