Council report concluded that the centre had reached 'the end of its useful life'
August 10, 2025
Regular users of the swimming pools at the Brentford Fountain Leisure Centre are expressing concern about its future after an extension of the current closure was announced.
Lampton Leisure first revealed that they needed to close for ‘essential maintenance’ on 22 July and that an update would be given on 4 August. The second bulletin on this date announced that the pools would remain closed as the work was ongoing adding, “We are working with our partners, Hounslow Council and our contractor, to ensure this work is completed as soon as possible.” No details have been given as to the specifics of the maintenance required. Another update on 18 August has been promised but it was only stated that the pools would open as soon as possible.
Anyone with a membership including swimming at the centre has automatically been given the right to use other pools operated by Lampton Leisure including Chiswick New Pool and Isleworth.
The rest of Brentford Fountain remains open. The gym, group exercise classes, sports hall and café are all running as usual.
The extended closure has led some pool users to worry that they may never reopen. Hounslow Council has already announced its intention to demolish the leisure centre as it says it has passed its useful life. £285,000 was granted by the council to bring the facility up to minimum required standards last year but it is understood to be unlikely that funds would be forthcoming if reopening the pools required a major expense.
The council has put aside a sum of just below £1million for a study into future options for the centre.
