Leader & local resident Nick Clegg puts his name to the petition - will you?
The site has been derelict since 1998 and after millions being spent on the consultation, development plans and maintaining and securing the site the Primary Care Trust in July announced they were looking at alternatives to redeveloping the old Putney Hospital site.
In spite of taking 10 years to develop the plan, NHS London have now said they are concerned about site sustainability and value for money given the recession.
James Sandbach
the Liberal Democrat
Parliamentary Campaigner
for Putney came up with the thought of a convalescent home on the site:
"We have seen ten years of drama and dither from Wandsworth PCT over the future of Putney Hospital whilst in the meantime a valuable community asset has gone to waste.
"The PCT need to take a strategic decision to put it back to use for community health services - we suggest a residential facility for convalescence and rehabilitation offers the best way forward. If the PCT can't deliver on this, then they should stand aside and invite community and charitable organisations take it over.

" Enough is enough - support for our petition shows that there is real anger in the community over this massive failure of local NHS management. We are petitioning the PCT Board to take a binding decision on Putney Hospital's Future."
Currently Queen Mary's Hospital has two convalescent wards for amputees and Kingston has a private ward for patients post private operations at the hospital so it would appear there would be a demand -according to Mr Sandbach's research St George's Hospital in Tooting has recommended ex patients to go to Rustington Convalescent Home near Worthing which cost £450 per night en suite bed and board.
