Putney MP Calls Putney Hospital Redevelopment Issue "A Fiasco..."

Justine Greening expresses concernover decision not to go ahead with the development

The site has been derelict since 1998 and after millions being spent on the consultation, development plans and maintaining and securing the site the Primary Care Trust have now decided to look at alternatives to redeveloping the old Putney Hospital site.

In spite of taking 10 years to develop the plan, NHS London have now said they are concerned about site sustainability and value for money given the recession. As no final decisions about the future of the hospital site have been made, the board will now meet in September where a final decision will be finally taken.

Justine said “ This is a real fiasco, NHS London have expressed concerns about the proposal but they have had years to make concerns known. Over £2.6 million has been spent on the development plans, consulting with residents and securing the site and it seems likely we will end up without a Putney Primary Care Centre on the site. I have previously raised concerns about the development plans at the PCT's AGM and I was assured that private investment would be found to help fund the new Primary Care Centre.

Meantime, the underlying issue regarding making sure we have enough sites for GP practices for residents is still unresolved with the redeveloped Putney Hospital site now not available. I am concerned to make sure that alternatives are being fully investigated.  It's a real bureaucratic shambles and just seems a complete waste of time and money that could have instead been used to provide healthcare for our local community.”
