Getting it on - World Cup quiz

The team behind www.gettingiton.org.uk , an interactive sexual health website for young people in south west London, have launched a World Cup competition for teens between the ages of 14 and 19.

The winner will walk away with a signed official England World Cup 2006 shirt. The second and third prizes are £50 and £25 vouchers for JD Sports. To enter the competition visit www.gettingiton.org.uk and answer three questions about sexual health. The closing date is Sunday 16 July 2006.

The website, www.gettingiton.org.uk , is a joint project between the councils and primary care trusts in Wandsworth, Kingston, Croydon, Richmond, Merton and Sutton. The website forms an integral part of the local Teenage Pregnancy Strategy, which aims to reduce the number of under 18 conceptions by 55% by 2010. Provisional figures show that rates of under 18 conceptions in Wandsworth have gone down by 18.5% since 1998. This surpasses the 2004 interim target of a 15% reduction.

As well as providing information on all the sexual health services in south west London, the website also hosts a unique virtual sexual health clinic, which gives young people the opportunity to explore questions they may be asked at a clinic and helps to ease some of the anxiety they might be feeling.

Professor Salman Rawaf, Wandsworth Teaching PCT Director of Public Health, said, “It is important to explore innovative ways of engaging young people in thinking about sexual health and relationship issues. Sex can be an uncomfortable subject for some, this website offers sound and credible information in a young person friendly and interactive format. The website is multi-faceted and I am particularly impressed with the clear sign posting to young person friendly services. ‘Getting it on’ is a welcome resource to promote healthy lifestyles to young people across south west London.”
