Residents Urged to Get Involved in Roehampton Community Weeks
A fortnight of activities taking place across the area

An extensive programme of free community activities and events is currently being held across Roehampton and West Putney as part of Roehampton Community Weeks 2024.
It is the third time the event has been held and it aims to offer something for everyone who lives or works in the Roehampton or SW15 areas. Events include sports sessions, classes, yoga, dance and much more.
Roehampton Community Weeks is co-ordinated by Our Roehampton with some of the activities supported by the Roehampton Community Fund. Roehampton Community Weeks began in 2021 in several locations around Roehampton providing the first opportunity many residents had been able to relax and get out in the community since the outbreak of covid
Local MP Fleur Anderson is encouraging her constituents to join in the fortnight of events. She has already presented medals to proud participants of all ages in the ‘Run, Walk and Scoot’ event this Thursday, with families joining from across the local area. The Run, Walk and Scoot has encouraged young children and their families out and active - the route is from the Alton to Heathsmere via Portswood.

Ms Anderson said,“It has been so brilliant to see this fortnight of activities go from strength to strength over the last 3 years. Thanks to ‘Our Roehampton’ for bringing everyone together and organising it. What started as a small scale initiative to help Roehampton residents begin to get back to normal after covid has rapidly grown into an amazing range of offerings for local people of all ages.
As a mother of four, I remember the long summer holidays and how challenging it was to keep all our family occupied and happy – it has been wonderful to speak to lots of parents this week and hear about the difference these community events make, especially at a time when we’re recovering from the cost of living crisis.
“The first Roehampton Community Week was 37 activities across a single week. That has now snowballed – 3 years later and we have two whole weeks of activities, with funding from a range of local organisations and 74 different activities.
“There really is something for everyone – from free Pilates in the park to pickleball, the Alton Health Practice stall to coffee with a local police officer. Please do come down and share the timetable with friends and neighbours – everyone is welcome!”
Local mother Orleen, who has attended the event every year with her family, said,“The children love this event and love to their get the surprise and medal at the end. Last year we scooted, this year we walked - next year we’ll run!”
Core funders of Roehampton Community Week include the Roehampton Parish Trust, the Wimbledon Foundation, Pest House Fund, the Miles Trust and Enable Leisure & Culture.
