However robberies and violent crime on the increase
New figures released by the Metropolitan Police for reported crime show that there has been a 4.8% decrease in crime in the Borough of Wandsworth over the last year. This fall outpaces that for the whole of the capital.
There was positive news on burglaries which have fallen dramatically over the year with residential burglaries down 19.1% to approach historic lows. Detective Supt. Guy Ferguson, said: “We made a significant impact during this operation (Operation Anchorage), but this is not the end, tackling burglary is a priority for Wandsworth police and we will continue to make every effort to arrest and charge burglars.”
On the other hand robberies are on the increase with those at business premises seeing a particularly sharp rise.
Violent crime and crime involving guns has also increased. The upward trend in Wandsworth is in contrast with a fall in the rest of London.
