Driver Arrested After Fatal accident on Roehampton Lane


Police continue their appeal for witnesses

Police are appealing for witnesses following the death of 92 year old Elizabeth Tauber following a road traffic collision in Roehampton.

Officers were called at approx 2.25pm on the 11th November following reports of a goods vehicle in collision with a woman in Roehampton Lane, SW15. London Ambulance Service attended and the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

It is believed that Elizabeth was crossing the road when the vehicle - a VW van - reversed and struck her. This incident occurred outside Roehampton University and officers are appealing for anyone who was in the area to contact them with information.

The driver of the vehicle stopped at the scene and was spoken to by police. On Saturday the driver attended Hounslow police station by appointment and was arrested in connection with the inquiry - and was later bailed to return on 14th January 2009 pending further enquiries.

A post mortem took place on 13th November at St George's Hospital mortuary. Police await details of the result. Next of kin have been informed and although theu await formal identification we are confident that the deceased is 92 year old Elizabeth Tauber from Putney.

An inquest will open and adjourn in due course. Officers from the Hampton Collision Investigation Unit investigate, and anyone who can assist should call them on on 020 8941 9011.
