Roehampton residents concerned about increased traffic on local roads if the Royal Parks Agency goes ahead with plans to close Robin Hood Gate are being urged to attend a key public meeting next week. The meeting is being arranged by the council and will take place at 7.30pm on Tuesday, 1 October in the Portrait Room, Froebel College, Roehampton Lane. More than 3,500 people have already responded to the council's own survey. Opposition to the Robin Hood Gate closure is running at 90% with 93% saying no to the closure of Pen Ponds car park. The RPA has said it is not bound to conduct public consultation on its plans and has declined an invitation to be represented at next Tuesday's meeting. The council's cabinet member for regeneration and transport Kathy Tracey said: "This could be the only chance local people get to share their concerns with other residents and park users. The RPA has seriously misjudged the strength of opinion. "Next week's meeting is one of three being held by the boroughs which border the park. We will be explaining the RPA's proposals from a Wandsworth perspective - focusing in particular on the impact on Roehampton."
