Hounslow's tone-deaf licensing fees

For all the talk of healthy streets and current measures being taken to provide for distancing, take this into consideration when wondering why businesses remain shut, continue to shut or don't avail themselves of outdoor space: Hounslow hasn't changed its pavement licensing fees.Their only concession is to reduce the consultation from 28 days to seven. All other fees remain as they were before the pandemic. Translation: pay what you normally would but don't use it to the same extent. Info I had to struggle to find. Other councils have loads of easily available info to help businesses recover, maximize potential and provide distancing. Not so LBH.Westminster abides by the current draft guidance kindly shared by Michael Robinson on another thread. Venues can pay a flat £100 fee for a 12-month pavement license. Available adjacent space can also  be accessed be it pavement or roadway. This mimics the policy in New York City.Just this week, Hammersmith publicised its "Our Space is Your Space" scheme allowing, among other things, venues to spread out across neighboring frontage to provide distancing and/or more tables. I have yet to learn what related fees are in LBHF.For comparison, the cost to use two square meters of pavement for 12-months in LBH would be £462 versus the £100 flat fee equivalent in Westminster. Take a look around, folks. Two square meters allows for nearly nothing in normal times, even less now. A table for two uses roughly two square meters. So to provide outdoor, socially-distanced seating for ten requires a minimum of 20 square meters. Perhaps more. Fees in Hounslow are as follows: £123 for application (6-month license) and £54/square meter used. So, for a twelve-month license it would run any Hounslow business £2406 per year. It would cost any Westminster business £100. This from an outer borough. At a time of crisis.Do the math.It doesn't add up.

Multevo Weed Killer

Hi Rima, You can kill Japanese Knot weed by using our Hot Water Weed control Products. It is a long process and can take numerous treatments to kill it. With Japanese knot weed you kill it from the bottom upwards. We have a spike attachment thatYou direct into the ground to kill it that way. Please see below further information on our Products and how it works. Hot water weed control requires fewer treatments, absolutely no additives to kill weeds and is significantly less £/m² in comparison to any other alternatives available on the market. As things stand the license on the controversial component in most weed killing chemicals may expire by the end of 2017 so adopting a herbicide-free alternative now is future-proof. By applying a hot water application you will reduce your dependence on chemicals therefore complying with legislation such as the Sustainable Use Directive and Water Framework Directive. Hot water weed killing can be carried out in wet and windy conditions so you are not restricted by the weather enabling you to get ahead of schedule unlike conventional methods. Hot water treatment has zero risk of contamination so is completely safe in high-risk areas around water courses and gives a good impression to the public whilst protecting staff; which usually results in a reduction in claims against and should improve the overall image of the Council. How it works? Every machine heats the water to 98⁰C which is the optimum temperature to maximise impact with the weed in order to destroy the cellular structure of the plant above and below ground down to the root without losing enough thermal energy. In terms of the application, hot water weed treatment is delivered at low pressure (2 bar) from the end of the lance as the operator pulls the trigger water will dispense and they will proceed to cover the weed above ground which will wilt instantly. The machines are fitted with patented boiling hot water technology that ensures consistency of results. 2/3 days after the treatment the weed will brown and die above ground. On average you can expect to treat weeds 3 times in a year to kill the root completely. Moss and Crassula Helmsii will die after just one application. The earlier you are able to treat the better the results (remember you aren’t restricted by wind or rain so you can get more done earlier into the season).
