Plum Duff bakery not closing (necessarily)

Thought I would start a new thread on this because the existing one has a potentially misleading title.I was there earlier and spoke to staff and it is far from certain that it will close. They do appear to have been somewhat left out of the loop but it seems the intention of the new owner may be to continue to run it as a cafe but without the bakery.We will see what happens on Monday morning but hopefully it has been written off prematurely. The article currently on the front page of this site is about right as far I can see.

Lime bikes

For anyone in Hounslow. Lime bikes issued this statement yesterday. " If you are hopping on a Lime bike this weekend we would like to remind users to practise responsible parking. Users are required to park the e-bikes at mandatory parking zones located around the borough which are marked out either on a footway or a carriageway.If users choose to abandon their ride outside of a bay, then they will be fined by Lime. Repeat occurrences will result in the user being banned from the scheme.Issues regarding abandoned bikes, suspected hacking attempts, noise and other operational issues should be reported to support@li.me in the first instance, who will be best placed to respond. This email address is monitored 24 hours a day, 7 days a week".They are apparently working on a fix to stop hacking, so we live in hope. But also for anyone who suffers from them picking up the bikes in the middle of the night with attendant noise, you can email support@li.me. Also remember that they need to keep LBH happy to keep the the contract, so if you are not happy with how they respond, email your local Councillor

Stop over 100 trees to be felled in Grove Park Conservation area

Hello I would like to bring to your attention the planning application for re-development of the Quinton Hogg Memorial Sports grounds (also known as Roko) in Grove park. Whilst there are many good aspects to the application the developers intend to fell over 100 mature fir trees to make room for a cricket pitch and cricket nets for Latymer school. These trees are situated in a conservation area and their removal will result in the loss of 100 trees that provide important oxygen to the environment so that schoolkids can practice cricket. There are plenty of spaces for the cricket nets to be placed elsewhere in the grounds. I encourage residents of Chiswick to comment on the Hounslow planning application site. Amazon vans on fire off the M4 hard shoulder bright as magnesium

Can anyone explain to me what the thinking is of this 'Blade Runner' gang vandalising cameras in the Chiswick area? Won't most of these cameras be effectively defunct come the end of next month when the zone expires. Even now for some of them they are unlikely to bring in much revenue. For instance, to get pinged by the Park Road one you would have to have looped around Hogarth Roundabout first.It's infuriating that people go around damaging public property but it makes it even worse that some of the cost they are incurring on the rest of us doesn't even serve their purpose.Does anyone know when the zone expands, will the anomaly of the local section of the A4 be incorporated into the ULEZ?

Devonshire Road - 2 Way to POWT

Wasn't it just a few days ago the forum brain trust was mocking the esteemed Professor Pike for suggesting that Devonshire Road could be fully pedestrianised after Prince of Wales Terrace and the road made two way to Chiswick High Road? Apparently chaos would ensue. Not enough room to cope with the traffic. Parking would have to be removed and even then .... Thames Water say "hold my beer". Traffic notice has suspended one way.

Sainsburys Chiswick

Sainsburys efforts to drive away customers are proceeding apace.Having dispensed with all but one or two of the manned tills customers are now corralled into two self-service pens - one for trolleys and one for baskets.Which is admittedly no big imposition for anyone who preferred the self-service tills already.However, The exit from the pens is now controlled by a barrier -and in order to be allowed to leave, courtesy of Sainsbury management its now necessary for the lucky customer to scan the bar code on their receipt on a reader.One lady who was caught out by this gave every appeareance of being a long term customer, And yet rather than being waved through by the assistant she was forced to rummage in her bag for the receipt.So that now in Sainsbury, for anyone foolish enough to actually use the tills rather than just helping themselves and walking staright out the door, there is now an assumption of guilt until the customer can prove otherwise.
