Ealing Trailfinder’s England international Meg Jones has been awarded an MBE in the King’s New Year Honours.
Meg, a key figure in England’s recent success on the international stage, has played a prominent role in Ealing Trailfinders have becoming one of the leading forces in women’s club rugby in recent years.
The honour reflects both her on-field achievements and her wider impact on the sport. Meg has been a regular feature in the England squad, contributing to major tournament campaigns and helping to raise the profile of the women’s game. Her performances at club level with Ealing Trailfinders have also been credited with inspiring younger players and strengthening the club’s reputation as a pathway for elite talent.
Reacting to the award, Ealing Trailfinders praised Meg as a role model for the club and the local area, highlighting her professionalism and commitment to developing women’s rugby. The club has invested heavily in the women’s game, and Jones’ MBE is seen as recognition not only of her individual career but also of the broader growth of the sport in Ealing.
Meg said, “I didn’t really know what to expect. You certainly never really think of getting it… I guess you think of just winning the World Cup and then all the other bits that come with it are just extras – and then obviously it’s an amazing honour!
“I feel a massive honour and privilege to receive the award, and hopefully put rugby on the map, which is all part of the aim.
“One of the Red Roses legacies is to inspire the next generation and keep pushing the narrative. If we can keep doing that, then we know we’ll be doing the best thing we possibly can for this sport.”
Red Roses Ellie Kildunne and Sadia Kabeya have also been recognised with MBEs, and Zoe Stratford (née Aldcroft), Marlie Packer and head coach John Mitchell will receive OBEs.
