Local residents will gather once again this Sunday, 28 September, for the monthly Turnham Green litter pick—an initiative that has become a fixture of community life in Chiswick.

Volunteers are invited to meet at 2.30pm outside Christ Church on Turnham Green, where they will be briefed before spending 45 to 60 minutes collecting litter across the Green and surrounding residential streets. The session will conclude back at the church around 3.30pm with tea, homemade cake, and time to chat—a tradition that regulars say is as important as the clean-up itself.

Organiser Jill has led the group since its inception in early 2023, and the monthly event has steadily grown in popularity. Past participants have praised the relaxed atmosphere, the opportunity to meet neighbours, and the tangible impact on local green spaces. The group typically collects several bags of litter per session, with particular attention paid to areas near benches, bus stops, and playgrounds.

Volunteers are encouraged to bring their own gardening or protective gloves. Litter-picking equipment is provided, and newcomers are always welcome. Group photos are occasionally taken to help publicise the initiative, and participants are asked to notify organisers if they prefer not to be included.

The litter pick takes place on the fourth Sunday of each month, excluding August and December. Upcoming dates include 26 October and 23 November.

The event is part of a wider movement across West London encouraging residents to take ownership of their public spaces. In recent months, similar initiatives have taken place in Ravenscourt Park, Gunnersbury Triangle, and along the Thames towpath.

This site remains committed to providing local community news and public interest journalism.

Articles such as the one above are integral to what we do. We aim to feature as much as possible on local societies, charities based in the area, fundraising efforts by residents, community-based initiatives and even helping people find missing pets.
