Dead Guilty Brings Psychological Drama to the Tabard Theatre

Team behind the smash hit Business of Murder returns

A taut psychological thriller comes to Chiswick this month as the Tabard Theatre presents a newly revised production of Richard Harris’s Dead Guilty.

From the same creative team behind the Tabard’s hit revival of The Business of Murder, this three-week run promises another tightly wound evening of suspense, shifting loyalties and creeping unease.

At the centre of the story is Julia, played by Charlotte Hunter, a graphic designer whose life has been violently upended. Badly injured in a car crash that killed her employer, John Haddrell, she retreats into her home, physically fragile and emotionally adrift. Cut off from friends and colleagues, she clings instead to the two people she believes she can trust. But as Harris’s script slowly tightens the screws, the audience is invited to question every assumption. Who is helping Julia, who is manipulating her, and how much danger is she really in?

The production also features Felicity Duncan as Margaret, Freddie Webster as Gary, and Julia Faulkner as Anne, a quartet whose shifting alliances and psychological tensions drive the play’s unsettling momentum.

Richard Harris is no stranger to the mechanics of tension. His television work spans some of Britain’s most enduring crime series — A Touch of Frost, The Sweeney, The Avengers and The Last Detective — while his stage plays Stepping Out and Outside Edge both earned Evening Standard Awards. Dead Guilty premiered in the West End in 1995, and for this Tabard production Harris has revisited and revised the play, sharpening its psychological edges for a contemporary audience.

The production is directed by Nick Bromley and produced in-house by the Tabard Theatre, continuing the venue’s commitment to high-quality drama with a local heartbeat. Following the success of The Business of Murder in 2024, expectations are high for another gripping night in the intimate Turnham Green space, where tension can be felt as keenly as dialogue.

Dead Guilty runs from 10–27 June, with tickets starting from £20. Running time is approximately two hours, including a 15-minute interval.

Booking is available via the Tabard Theatre’s web site.

Tabard Theatre is at 2 Bath Road, W4 1LW just next to Turnham Green tube station.
