The local neighbourhood police team says it has made an arrest this Wednesday ( 6 August) after investigations linked a string of offences involving a man making unwanted sexual comments and indecently exposing himself to lone females.

Police Sergeant O’Donnell and PC Storey collected information on reports which came, not just from their area, but also Acton and Wandsworth.

As a result, a 32-year-old man from Chiswick has been arrested for indecent exposure and sexual assault.

The team is also claiming a string of successes in its efforts to reduce shoplifting on the High Road. A 65-year-old woman from Chiswick has been sentenced to a Community Order including rehabilitation activity after a warrant was executed at her home earlier this year and a substantial amount of stolen property was found.

In addition, as part of a shoplifting operation on the High Road, a male and female were arrested in possession of nearly £2000 of stolen clothing from a local shop. Both were charged and remanded to court where they received suspended prison sentences.

As part of a plain clothes operation a suspicious male was stopped on a bike and searched. He was found to be in possession of stolen items from a local shop and was also wanted for theft of a mobile phone. He was charged and remanded for court.

The focus of the team is now on motor vehicle break ins. A 49-year-old man was arrested for motor vehicle interference and going equipped to steal earlier this year as part of Operation Automotive. He has since been convicted and given a Community Order including 180 hours of unpaid work.

Despite this there has been a sudden sharp increase in motor vehicle break ins across Chiswick. Officers say that a very high percentage of offences are when bags are left on display in the car. They ask that you ensure yourselves and any visitors do not leave valuables in your cars or any bags on display, even an empty bag left in the car will potentially cause the vehicle to be targeted.

In many cases, the victim is adamant that they locked their vehicle. Criminals use many methods to get into cars including scanning for a locking signal and remotely unlocking your car. This happens when keys are left near the front door so their signal can be cloned.

To prevent this, you can keep them further away from the front door or in a ‘faraday pouch’ which can be purchased online.

If you see anybody on eBikes wearing face coverings or balaclavas acting suspiciously in the area then call 999 to report it.
