Last weekend I joined the Grove Park Group and residents in a demonstration against the development of the Old Station House pub into flats. The pub has been closed since 2023, and an application has now been made to change the use of the building and turn it into a residential property. The site has been in community use for more than 150 years and has played an important part in the Grove Park community.

I agree with residents that it would be a great loss to see the pub converted to residential use, particularly as it is well located by the station and the only pub in immediate area. I hope that the pub will be able to remain as a part of the community for many years to come. Any comments or objections to the application can be submitted here by the 6th of November.

On Tuesday evening I had the pleasure of giving a speech at the CPS’ 40 th Anniversary reception. The event was held at The Law Society Hall and there were four former Directors of Public Prosecutions in attendance, including our previous Prime Minister Keir Starmer. It was a great event with a video montage showing the founding of the CPS right up to present day. There was also a speech from the current Director of Public Prosecutions, reflecting on the highlights of the CPS’ history and how it has changed over the years.

On Thursday I attended the Fleet Air Arm awards at the Commons. The event was to honour outstanding achievements in the Royal Navy aviation and was sponsored by Keith Knowles who operates his successful hotel and pub business from Hammersmith. I was very pleased to go along and support the event.

On Friday morning I visited the Mulberry Centre in Isleworth. The centre has been serving Hounslow and the wider community for 25 years, offering support for people with cancer, those at the end of their life, or family and friends who are bereaved. They offer therapy, support for those affected by cancer, information workshops, wellbeing classes, and social events. The Mulberry Centre is a vital service for our local community, and I was delighted to meet with Head of Client Services, Julie Quinn, who showed me around.

Best wishes,

Andy

Like Reading Articles Like This? Help Us Produce More

This site remains committed to providing local community news and public interest journalism.

Articles such as the one above are integral to what we do. We aim to feature as much as possible on local societies, charities based in the area, fundraising efforts by residents, community-based initiatives and even helping people find missing pets.

We've always done that and won't be changing, in fact we'd like to do more.

However, the readership that these stories generates is often below that needed to cover the cost of producing them. Our financial resources are limited and the local media environment is intensely competitive so there is a constraint on what we can do.

We are therefore asking our readers to consider offering financial support to these efforts. Any money given will help support community and public interest news and the expansion of our coverage in this area.

A suggested monthly payment is £8 but we would be grateful for any amount for instance if you think this site offers the equivalent value of a subscription to a daily printed newspaper you may wish to consider £20 per month. If neither of these amounts is suitable for you then contact info@neighbournet.com and we can set up an alternative. All payments are made through a secure web site.

One-off donations are also appreciated. Choose The Amount You Wish To Contribute.

If you do support us in this way we'd be interested to hear what kind of articles you would like to see more of on the site – send your suggestions to the editor.

For businesses we offer the chance to be a corporate sponsor of community content on the site. For £30 plus VAT per month you will be the designated sponsor of at least one article a month with your logo appearing if supplied. If there is a specific community group or initiative you'd like to support we can make sure your sponsorship is featured on related content for a one off payment of £50 plus VAT.
