20th Chiswick Scouts have launched a fresh appeal for volunteers, inviting local residents to help support a thriving Scout Group that now provides activities for around 100 children aged six to eighteen.

The group, based at The Ranch beside Chiswick House, says volunteering offers a rewarding way to make a difference in young people’s lives while gaining valuable skills and experience.

Leaders say the most compelling reason to get involved is simple: “seeing the joy on children’s faces”. But the benefits extend far beyond that. Volunteering offers hands-on experience with young people—useful for anyone considering teaching, adoption, youth work or simply wanting to build confidence, communication and organisational skills. It also looks strong on a CV, particularly for those developing leadership experience.

The group emphasises that volunteers can give as much or as little time as they feel able. Some help run games and activities; others prefer to support behind the scenes. All roles contribute to a programme built around fun, inclusion and learning through play.

The Ranch’s unique setting—its own garden and immediate access to Chiswick House Gardens—allows the group to run an unusually rich mix of outdoor sessions. Weekly meetings combine confidence-building games, creative projects, practical skills such as first aid and problem-solving, and the chance to work towards badges that recognise effort and curiosity. Camps remain a highlight of the year, giving children the chance to explore, collaborate and grow in independence.

The group runs four sections during school term-time:
Beavers (6–8 years) – Mondays, 6.30–7.30pm
Cubs (8–10½ years) – Wednesdays, 6.45–8pm
Scouts (10½–14 years) – Thursdays, 7.30–9pm
Explorers (14–18 years) – Mondays, 8–9.30pm

To support these sessions, the group is currently seeking volunteers for several roles, including Beaver Team Leader, Beaver Team Member, Cub Team Member and Scout Team Member.

Anyone interested in finding out more or registering their interest is invited to email von.mielewczyk@blueyonder.co.uk. The group stresses that no previous Scouting experience is required—just enthusiasm, reliability and a willingness to help young people thrive.

This site remains committed to providing local community news and public interest journalism.

Articles such as the one above are integral to what we do. We aim to feature as much as possible on local societies, charities based in the area, fundraising efforts by residents, community-based initiatives and even helping people find missing pets.
