Chiswick Volunteer Returns from Ukraine Mission

Chiswick resident Mark Scorer has returned from a successful volunteer mission to Ukraine, where he helped deliver fully stocked ambulances to frontline medics and emergency responders as part of a humanitarian convoy organised by Medical Life Lines Ukraine (MLLU).
Mark, 62, who has lived in Grove Park for more than two decades, set off in the early hours of 9 November with a team of volunteer drivers. After travelling overland through France, Belgium, Germany and Poland, the convoy reached Lviv on 13 November, where the vehicles were handed over to local medical and civil defence teams. Mark was inspired to join the mission after hearing about a friend’s experience on an earlier convoy
Speaking after his return, Mark expressed his gratitude to everyone who supported the effort.
He said, “I would like to thank everyone who donated and for their words of support. It was an incredibly moving experience to meet the front-line teams of medics and rescuers who we handed over the ambulances to. We left the UK at 4:30am on the 9th November and handed over the keys on Thursday 13th November. Each ambulance packed with medical and other vital supplies cost around £20,000, so every penny of the donations goes towards funding these critically important tools to help in a warzone.
“It was especially important to them to know that there are so many people back in the UK who haven’t forgotten them and are hoping for peace.”
Mark has now surpassed his original fundraising target, with local residents and supporters contributing more than £8,000. He said the continued generosity was vital, as each ambulance represents a significant financial undertaking for MLLU, which purchases second-hand UK emergency vehicles—often from NHS fleets—before refurbishing them and filling them with urgently needed supplies.
The November convoy was MLLU’s fourteenth since the charity began in 2022, and the need for equipment remains intense as Ukraine braces for another difficult winter. Mark described the handover as particularly powerful, noting the determination of the medical teams who continue to operate under threat from Russian attacks on infrastructure and civilian areas.
Although now home in Chiswick, Mark continues to support the charity and says that further donations are still “much needed and gratefully accepted” to keep future convoys on the road.
MLLU, founded shortly after Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022, has now delivered more than 100 ambulances and emergency vehicles to Ukrainian hospitals, emergency services and civil defence teams. Past convoys have supported facilities in Kharkiv, Odesa, Sumy, Chernihiv, and cities across the Dnipro and Kriviy Rih regions.
