The local group's base is by the car park in Chiswick House Gardens
February 28, 2026
A fresh appeal is going out across Chiswick as the 20th Chiswick Scout Group invites local families to enrol their children in its Beaver Colony. The group is looking for new members aged six and over, and it is encouraging both boys and girls who have just turned six, or are about to, to come along and discover what Scouting can offer at this early stage.
Beaver Scouts form the youngest section of the Scouting movement and provide a lively, structured environment for children aged six to eight. Sessions are built around games, simple challenges, creative activities and early skills for life. Children learn by doing, and they are encouraged to explore, make things, work together and try new experiences in a safe and friendly setting. The Beaver programme has been part of UK Scouting since the mid-1980s and now attracts tens of thousands of young members across the country.
The 20th Chiswick Scouts’ history stretches back to the mid-twentieth century, when it was based at Belmont School before moving to the Nursery Gardens in the grounds of Chiswick House. Over the decades it has grown into a full Scouting pathway, offering Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers, all supported by committed volunteer leaders. The group’s base, known locally as The Ranch, sits beside Chiswick House and provides a distinctive setting for outdoor activities and community events.
Children joining the Beaver Colony at the 20th Chiswick Scouts can expect a varied and engaging programme. Activities typically include games that build confidence and teamwork, craft projects that encourage imagination, and outdoor sessions that make the most of the surrounding parkland. Beavers also begin to learn simple practical skills, from basic first aid to problem-solving, and they work towards badges that recognise their curiosity and effort. The emphasis throughout is on fun, inclusion and learning through play.
The Beaver Colony meets on Mondays from 6.30pm to 7.30pm at the 20th Chiswick Scouts’ base in the Chiswick House Car Park, off the A4next to Park Sports tennis. The group welcomes enquiries from parents whose children are ready to start their Scouting journey.
