By an American company in a deal thought to be worth around £32m
Wimbledon-based car club, Streetcar, has been taken over by an American company in a deal thought to be worth around £32m.
Streetcar, based in Wimbledon Hill Road, has cars which are parked in 1,100 specified parking areas in London, Guildford, Maidstone, Bristol, Cambridge, Oxford, Brighton and Southampton.
Around 50,000 members of the car club can pick the vehicles up with special smartcards and hire them for anything from 30 minutes to six months.
The six-year-old company has been bought by American car share giant, Zipcar. The group says it will still manage its UK operation from Wimbledon.
